i made my own with some all thread, and then picked up a accrylic ball that was threaded on one side online the whole thing cost under $10 or so, and super easy!!!!
you will need 12 in of M8 threaded rod
M8 nuts and washers
i used M10 thread, but its a pretty tight fit so i'd suggest M8. Also make sure you get thr right size ball for your GPS depending on what type of mounting you have
I have that one myself, but it still works with the ram system. The ball on that is much larger than my garmin accommodates so you wont be able to attach the holder directly to the back of the gps case. If you get this one, remove your front fender or you'll scratch it trying to piggy back extensions to go far enough up the neck to secure the bolts with a ratchet.
That's definitely a great mount. There was another guy on here that fabricated a mount , but it was for fireboats only. Anyone doing anything for lightnings? For iPhones?
That worked well for me at first too. Near the end the nylon lock nut just keep spinning in the hose. It was snug enough that wasn't going to fall out, but the weight of gps had it swinging around the mount whenever l leaned it over in a turn.
I didn't use a nylon lock nut on mine just a washer a regular nut and blue loctite. I haven't had a problem with it yet I will post pics of it when riding season is over.
I Think The One This Guy Is Making Would Be Better Than The Ram Mount One Because It's Offset And Has A Huge Ball. I Think I Would Rather Have The Homemade One! And I Use A Magellan!
