Wiggle, ive been thinking about how wrong you are.

Anybody else ever notice the slight lateral movement of our cranks in the case? Or that the front connecting rod bearing has a fair amount of side to side pivoting thats normal.

This is normal movement.

I have video of a bad rod bearing motor if anyone wants it. Running and the disassembled rod movement on the big end.
The cranks have a lateral movement but it is pretty slight.

this is not somethin you'll read in a text book just something i've noticed on just about every engine i've pulled down wit bad rod bearings
30 plus years as machinist/assembly man and dyno tech in higher end race shop as a career.....I simply state what I know in an effort to help those on here. If I don't know, or if I am not well versed in it, such as with the DDFI systems, I will make it very clear as such. Sounds like you have it figured out. Go fix it.

this piston was taken out of an engine with 28K miles, both big end bearing AND wrist pin bushing/pin were good.

still shows coating wear on skirt, so that may not be a factor in terms of diagnosing bearing issues.
