Bought an 08 firebolt lastnight. Finally got her home and rolled her into the garage. Did a better more involved inspection and realized the rear brake doesn't light the tailight, but the front brake does. Could that be a fuse, or is it more likely to be a wire problem? And also, how do I get the passenger seat cowl off?

If it is that switch then its a relatively easy fix, that switch doubles as the brake line banjo bolt so you would have replace it and bleed the rear brakes. You can also find where it plugs in unplug it and jump the plug terminals and see if the brake light comes on.

Mine had this problem when I bought it with 6500 miles.

To test, find wherever the rear brake switch plug is, unplug, and jump the pins on the wiring harness (bike) side. Not the switch side, of course. Just put a screwdriver or something between them with the bike on, connecting the pins.

If the brake light lights up, your problem is the switch or switch adjustment. If it doesn't light up, you problem is elsewhere (potentially wiring harness).

This is just general troubleshooting advice for brakes, not XB specific. I haven't torn into that area of the bike in the 20 hours I've owned my XB.

First, check fuse, then unplug the connector, and jump it,to verify it is working, and eliminate a electrical problem. Then check the pressure switch. In my experience,it is usually the brake pressure switch, mounted on top of your rear brake master cylinder. sometimes it will be a little wet (where the brake fluid has made it thru). If its leaking then change it,it wont allow the pressure to build up,.If its not leaking then try to bleed the rear brakes.Once again there has to be pressure for the switch to light.
These are my opinions and my method of starting troubleshooting, and it is usually solved within these steps, but there are other possible issues that happen.I hope this helps you.please post if this helped or if you need more help. There are a few knowledgeable people on here to help.

clean well with brake cleaner and compressed air.

I have had to do this twice now in 18k miles. but its still the original one. they just get dirty and they vibrate loose sometimes.

Congrats! The brake advise is spot on. Jumper them and check for light.

The seat cowl us attached to the seat. Undothe seat with the key, slide it fforward a bit and pull up. Then you'll see how to remove the cover.

If you can't figure out the brake light I'll give ya a hand. Ain't far.
