Thought I would post this up. all you need is a number 4 allen, two crescent wrenches and two 5/16th washers.... take the allen and remove the bolt on that holds the rod to the piece coming out of the case. Sorry for my horrible nomenclature. then take the bolt out of the piece on the case. flip it over and reinstall. then take off the shift lever, put the two washers behind it and reinstall. then install the rod back and boom. 1 up 5 down. quick shift like crazy

Was it difficult to remember how to shift since it is the exact opposite?

BTW Looks like the rivets on your jardine are about to rip right through.

FU^#$$K jardine! lol yea they are, its a POS. only 800 miles on it. yes i am still shifting into 5th at stop lights lol

I kinda wanted to try it out because sometimes I don't always fully pull it into gear and end up making a fool of myself. haha Never tried starting the bike in 5th gear, how well does that work, i bet you could if you really tried.

What do you need the washers behind the shift lever for?

Do you still get a good solid shift? At the angle of the connecting rod it doesn't look like your shifter will be getting as good of leverage anymore.

yeah, to don't need the washers. The screw through the pivot base is a set screw that mates into a collar on the actual shift arm. You can't install the pivot base too far onto the arm, so you don't need the washers.

i tried that when i got my bike, but the linkage would fold backwards. i'de pay someone to make me a proper lever!

i havent had any problems with the shifter folding backwards but i didnt put the linkage that that severe of an angle. and without the washers the back side of the shifter hits the case and will not allow you to shift up to 1st

Yea I have mine done too and I love it it is weird riding a bike that is standard shift now I have not had any problems what so ever with it and I have had it done for over a year now

I did it with my old RD350. Had a blast, took a while to get used to but no big deal. Spoils you for riding anyone eleses bike though. I didn't do it with my XB cause I teach a bike course on weekends and would be completely screwed up switching back and forth all the time.

I did this mod from brand new, never rode it stock. It makes upshifts much more positive. Funny thing, I could never get used to this shift pattern on the track. All my race bikes had the "street" pattern while my most recent street bikes run the "track" pattern. Wayne

I did this on my current bike when I first got it and snapped the shift linkage while up shifting, I must have just stepped down to hard[smirk]

I just went back to the regular setup. It was real easy to get use to just pissed me off when it broke so I didnt want to worry about it again so I decided to just go back.

Actually it will help when shifting 1st to secon or second to third when that front wheel is airborn. Way easier to stomp the shifter down while getting pulled off the bike.

you actually gain a lot. shifting happens a lot faster when you are using one of the strongest muscles in your body VS the side of your calves

there is no way in hell this helps the average rider. maybe gaining a millisecond or 2 with each shift.

i can see where it would help with stunting or track, but it doesnt come down to using a stronger muscle to shift. if your calves are that weak, get to the gym.
