Octupus, Nevermind I see you posted on that thread already. That was the one I was talking about.

Well just got off the phone with Chris, the guy who builds and sells these brackets and I have a couple answers to the questions above and some others that I was wondering myself.

First- Why didn't he weld the brackets.
He has welded many of brackets in the past and did some extra research to see what other where doing and seen how thier feedback was on thier products and it all comes down to the welds breaking. He is a certified welder and admits that even his own bracket cracked over time due to vibration. Which we all know on here how much our bikes vibrate. It isnt a matter of the quality of the weld but rather the vibrations off the end of the bracket since it only has one mounting point.

Also in the pictures the bolts shown are not the bolts he uses. He uses carrige bolts that counter sink themselves into the top plate bracket, which allows you to remove the nut but maintains the bolt into the bracket without spinning since the size of the holes are sized to do as stated above.

All the brackets are powder coated and he has a lifetime gauranty on the breakage of the bracket. He can do this since he is using 1/8" thick metal and not a 14, 16, or 18 guage metal. 1/8" metal is roughly 2 times thicker than 14 guage metal or 3 times thicker than the 18 guage metal.

Also I sent him a picture of my bike so he could compair the color to get the best match, as I have the silver framed Buell so it should match pretty much dead nuts.

Anyway he said he shipped them this morning and I hope to get them either tomorrow or Weds.

Again as you all know I will post pics.

Oh and Dave he said he had them airflowed and you will only lose 2mph, so that is a plus [smirk]

That makes a lot more sense. The use of carriage bolts that is. I just couldnt understand how you could have what looked like a well designed product with such a flaw. Considering he uses 1/8" steel, I wonder why he didnt opt for countersunk tapered allen heads. Then they would be completely flush. If you speak to him again, mention that, it might be a good idea. Although it seems like he has put a lot of time and thought into these already.

He actually mentioned that and his plasma cutter is a 3-axis not a 5-axis which is what would be needed to do the angled cuts for a counter sunk Allen head bolt.

Nothing a drill press and a countersink bit cant fix ;-) Damn those fancy machines, even a hand drill would work.
I think I might try to make one up out of one piece to mount to the Ss swingarms fender mounting holes. I was thinking of shaving them off this winter, but if I could bend one up out of a flat piece it could be cool. I saw someone do it by welding up some arced rod. But like you said the welds might fail with all the vibration, and I am by no means a certified welder!
ahh too many ideas, and not enough time.

Xtremelow - That site you listed for the fender elim also had a airbox eliminator that still retains the active exhaust on the 12's. Have you ordered anything from them before or talked to them? I've been looking for a way to do that.

I HAVE.

The guy name is Stefan. He's legit. Only thing is good luck in actually receiving the product.

I had a couple packages broken into, and all I received was an empty box, but he happily replaced them for FREE. This is one of the reason him and I do not deal with each other anymore. Oh and once a package returned back to him empty as well.

He only uses DHL Paket shipping service. Problem is once it makes it the US, the USPS gets the package and delivers it, NOT DHL. So it's extremely easy for so many different hands to handle and "LOSE" the package [down][mad].

That's the only downside of dealing with DCC-germany

Well here it is, a damn near perfect match in color.

Simple to install but like everything else I did modify it to sit in closer to the wheel, all I did was drill a couple new holes.

Dave my bike will now be able to maintain 200mph with the mod I did.[smirk]

Any way look away and post comments or questions.

Are you not afraid it will rub against the wheel? Looks pretty damn close to me.

But it does look sweet though, just kind of close.

No it has about 1" of clearance to the wheel yet and about 1/4" to the belt.

I think the fitment is perefect, not rubbing but not sticking way out either.

You know I like the look of that. If it was just arched instead of bent.
How about a 3/4 angle view like the first pic, but with the plate on? I am curious how the gap looks with the plate on.
I wonder if it would be possible to secure it to the inside of the swing arm somehow? It would look much cleaner. I know there is nothing to sandwich it to then, but it would look really nice if you could figure out how to attach it. Gonna have to take a look at the swing arm up close.

Looks good though, runs well with the belt. I am just being picky I guess.

Here are some outside shots.

As far as a curved metal plate the only problem is it would need to be welded which if you refer back he doesnt like weld since over time the vibrations tend to crack them and fail.

well let me know how it works for ya xtreme. im personally not diggin the bent look or the way it mounts to the bike or the lack of spacing for a light but as long as ur happy with it thats all that matters keep in touch.

I personally think it looks awesome xtremelow.[up]

My only concern would be the belt. Would it be a better fit if it was on the left or brake side?

Not too bad looking. any chance on test fitting it on the other side and taking some pics?

also where did you get your axle sliders?

I can swap sides no problem, I will do it tomorrow.

The sliders where made at my shop by my tool guy.
