So has anyone ever been to Guam? I gotta head down there in a week to give training. I know its 20 hours worth of flying, 13 hours time difference and hot. Just looking for ideas of things to do there. Thanks

I haven't been there, but knew some people stationed there... supposed to be some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world around Guam. Lots of WWII wreckage that is in shallow enough water to snorkel to.

I was going to look into some snorkeling and beach time for sure.

Nikleisch- I am Electrician in the U.S. Coast Guard and manage the newest small boat in the USCG the 45 RB-M. It is capable of 46 knots, j-turns on a dime. 2-detroit diesel engines putting out 800HP per attached to Rolls Royce jet Drives. I get to travel around and give training, or troubleshoot any issues that come up. Its a great job. Below are two videos, on of its self righting capabilities and the other performing acceptance testing, if you watch when the boat is conducting j-turns the platform is making about 40 knots.

Sweet boat. Good to see the puddle pirates are getting quality gear. ;-)

I was laid over in Guam for about 8 hours enroute to Yokota. Wish I could have actually spent some time there. I hear the snorkeling is awesome and I'm sure if you check in with the Rec office, they'll have plenty of suggestions.

And as always, Thank you for your service...

I was in Guam for a couple of days about this time two years ago. It was beautiful. I pretty much hung out at the beach and swam and drank. I was also on military orders so I flew in to the airbase there. Good luck.

My response kinda sounded like a advertisement on one of those dating websites. You know long walks on the beach etc. Just messing around. HAHA

Hey xtreme, I also am in the Coast Guard, I work on the outdated 47' MLB in Oregon. Just got thru the surf season without any knock downs or roll overs, it is also the self righting platform for surf rescues. My buddy was stationed in guam, he says the night life was unlike anything in the states, might wanna try it out while your out there

Thanks Wanta6gear I fly out on thursday, so gonna miss the racing.

Juggernaut- I have had a lot of dealings with the 47 also, good boat. I am not a nightlife kinda guy I have grown out of the whole drinking scene. Thanks though.

Just scrolling through the posts after a long time not checking. Sorry I caught the post late.

My mom got a teaching job on Guam in 1987 so I lived on Guam for 5 years, 1987-1992, graduated from JFK high school there in Tamuning. My Mom is still over there as principal at the air base middle school. It was fun being a kid and swimming all year round. It was quite an adjustment going from Louisiana to Guam but we melted right in with the people there. Still talk to a few friends from there fairly regularly although we are now dispersed all over the globe. It's a pretty place to visit. Learned a lot about different cultures there. My sister and I still hope to take our families there to visit one day, but the $1800 flights are postponing that.
