We don't because of what it has become into.
not sure i understand so you did celebrate it when it was more like the ancient religions and folklore, including paganism, ancient Roman religions, early Catholic Christianity, Irish folklore, and just dont now because of what it has become or you have never celebrated it.

I celebrate because of what it is today, and excuse to have fun. It has a lot of freedom for how you celebrate which is nice, costumes, parties, hand out candy, get candy, spooky houses, drinking, sleeping, go out see how businesses restaurants, theme parks change to go about it. Hell slaughter a goat just do it in secret if you want, do some weird rituals, its a what ever floats youre boat for fun kinda holiday.

:D That's the best part!

There are one or two aspects of Halloween from the old days I agree with. I didn't mean we don't celebrate it because of what America has turned it into .. no. Even before.

I was just wondering because just about every house is decorated. Figured I'd ask why seeing as how this forum is mostly American.

I celebrate it because it's the only time of year the good girls that are all proper all of the time dress up like slutty pirates and slutty (insert costume here). I love it. It's my Christmas.

Best Halloween ever... was when My friend handed out candy and i stood behind the screen door dressed as leatherface with a sledge hammer and demilitarized chainsaw (took the chain off for safety)...When the disbelievers and brave kids shrugged of the sledge.. i started up the saw and rushed through the door (it set off the smoke alarms in the foyer--unexpected but a bonus). Have to appreciate the look on the little kiddies faces as they rush the decision between running in horror or trying to scoop up free candy.. we earned a rep in the neighborhood that year. (For any fans, yes i did the chainsaw dance once i made it out to the sidewalk... how could i not.) epic..

I used to love halloween.. big harvest moons.. cool weather... handing out candy (and the jack o lantern) at the end of the night. The last few years i'be been barely able to get the candy together and carve the pumpkin by the day of. Priorities suck sometimes...

Something I have noticed is people dont go all out like they used to. I remember when I was younger people would have haunted houses built in the front yard you had to go through just to get candy and every house has awesome decorations. Now you are lucky to just see pumpkins carved anymore.

Uh, last year in Settle near Capitol Hill, I experienced the best Halloween set-ups ever: block and blocks of properly decorated homes, haunted mansions with tours, "real" actors in role, seriously creative scary stuff, hundreds of people out (we could barely navigate the kids up and down the blocks). It was awesome.

I'm gonna be Barack Obama and go around handing out pink slips. Scariest costume of the year.
lol im going as obama and romney so i can be both halfs of the same problem the obama side is going to have a rubber boot for all the b/s romney side is going to have a flip flop.:D

That's awesome. It must be because I live in the Bible belt now and no one likes Halloween here. I just remember how things were when I was a kid and when I took my step-son out here I was like this is crazy how lame Halloween is around here. If I didn't live in the middle of nowhere I'd go all out with decorations. Maybe in the future when I move back to the 'burbs.
