Not that I'm a raging HD supporter or anything, but many have tried but failed at stealing away the market. Modern Indian, Victory, Yamaha's Star lineup (which I personally love and have owned 3 of).
Sadly HD is so ingrained in our culture that it's like status. You can roll up on a pos Harley and people treat you differently than say a Victory or Star. I've had two badass Roadstars dropped, custom paint, etc. and when you roll up people look and then it's like "eh, nice but it's not a Harley". Even when they don't vocalize it you can see the thought in their eyes. Not that I give a ****, but it's funny.
