As you guys have already read my belt on my 03 ate a rock. So I called the nearest Harley dealer (about 15 miles from my house) and attempted to order a new one. The lady was very friendly, I gave her the part number rather than telling her what it was for and she claimed it was not in the system. She asked me what the application was and I told her it was a 2003 Buell Lightning XB9SL drive belt. She replied that her dealership was not an "authorized Buell dealership" and that she could not get any Buell parts. I explained to her that Harley Davidson owned Buell Motorcycles and that they shut them down in 2010 but Harley still provided most parts. The parts lady then proceeded to tell me that it was her understanding that the Buells were German bikes that were only carried in select dealerships for a few years and that she had never even seen one. WTF!!!! I hung the phone up, found another belt for $140 shipped and proceeded to use alot of four letter words in regards to Northshore Harley Davidson. Lesson of the day folks, Harley Davidson is nothing more than a bunch of Satan worshipping junkies!

Dealers that didnt cary Buell Cant order parts for them......At least this is what Ive been lead to beleave by every non Buell sales dealer. Glad you found a belt.

I'm sure she couldn't get the part, but to give me a completely incorrect history lesson on Buell Motorcycles was retarded.

i didnt think that anyone ran 03 belts any more either, as they were prone to breaking. i would suggest that if you havent yet, you should upgrade to the 04 and beyond version. better life from a belt.

That is ridiculous, but sadly I have heard a similar thing from my local HD shop. They sent me to 3 other HD's in the area to find parts and each said they were not "authorized buell dealers" and would be difficult to "special order" parts. After I told them to read up on their company, I was told that the other local dealers (yes, the ones who denied having the mystical Buell dealer authorization) were the authorized dealers and I would have better luck through them. When it comes to Buells, it seems as though we are stranded on a limb. [confused]

This is pretty much the story I have always heard as well. Now we all know that any dealer should be able to help but they choose not to. Quite a shame but nothing we can do. From the beginning only selected dealers carried the Buell line.

In 2010 I went to the local dealer here in Tulsa for a small gasket. They told me it was discontinued. I said well its the same gasket as used on that 1125 sitting on the showroom. He looked the part up on the 2010 model and said it was discontinued as well but he could order it.

I asked if I could have the retailers name and I'd just order it myself because it was less than a $10.00 purchase. He said no...

This type of business ethic is why the japanese out sells AMERICAN cars, electroincs and pretty much everything anymore.

What can we do? I do not know. [confused]

Just because it is an HD dealer DOES NOT mean they are obligated to help you. Sorry to be bearer of bad news but it is fact.

I was also under the impression that HD dealers that were not Buell dealers don't carry parts or do service on Buell's. There are several HD dealer's around me but the 2 closest one's don't deal with Buell(never did) so I have to got about 45 minutes to the HD that used to carry Buell when I want parts...

Buell owners are not out on a limb. There are knowledgeable resources for us out there, this place being one. The other is AmericanSportbike.com, more than a store. Al is one of the best resources out there and will be able to tell you what you need and probably get it for you. There's a guy in the parts department at St. Paul, MN Harley named Lance that will also work to help you.

Yes...there are some GOOD H/D dealerships around, believe or not. It IS true that if a dealer WASN'T a Buell dealer before H/D cut the brand, they can't get parts. MAYBE as a favor they may try, but are not obligated. By law, all BUELL dealers ARE obligated to help with parts until 2016. (7 years after the cut). Here in cental Pa., Iron Valley and White's H/D are SUPER!! If your're not from around here, look them up on the web and get them to help you! Frank at Iron Valley is in parts and owns Buells...Good guy. And J.J. in service used to be a crew chief on a Buell race team...another good guy! And White's (parent company of Iron Valley), has an EBR 1190RS on their showromm floor! YEP! THere a few good H/D dealers left! :D

I went to the local HD dealer to get spark plugs for my old M2, they told me they couldnt sell buell parts. A few months latter I went in before a race and asked for spark plugs for a sportster which in turn they gave me a set of Buell plugs. I caused a bit of a scene and refuse to go back, even to get parts for my softail.

The dealer close to me is not an authorized Buell dealer, but they have other stores within a few hours of each other that are Buell dealers. Explain that one

Wiggle....where are you from? I live in Enola, just across the river from Hbg. White's and Iron Valley are GREAT!

Hi Marko! I'm from Elizabethtown....not too far from you! I have been VERY happy and impressed with White's/Iron Valley!

Ray Price in Raleigh is a good place to call. They had a lot of Buell inventory back in the day. Also, the dealer's son raced Buells and maybe still does.

you gotta understand too that this day and age not a lot of people know what a buell is. especially if these companies are hiring newbies to run their parts or customer service desk they dont know of any other bike except for a harley. i dont think you should get all bent outta shape about it, you know that parts are soon to be obsolete youre just gonna have to deal with it or get a new bike. im only 25 years old and i love my buell but most of my friends ride ducati and hondas and yamahas they dont even know what a buell is.

So I should keep my mouth shut and revel in someone else's ignorance?
