i am currently in afgahnistan right now but am soon going on mid deployment leave and i bought some mods for my 08 xb12r like D&D exhaust and k&n air filter and im changing out most of the plastic with carbon fiber except for a few small parts and i had my mom talk to the harley shop a i am not home to do it and the guy said about 1200 dollars to pute all the stuff on and there were some other things the guy told my mom but unfortionitly she did not write them down and she is not mechanicly inclined so her trying to tell me what he said was horrible can any one tell me what might needs to be done to the bike if i pute a D&D on it and K&N because the harley shop said they never did it on an o8 before

My first reaction to your post title was "yeah, no ****?" After reading the post, my opinion hasn't changed.

I haven't done a D&D before, but 1200$ seems pretty ridiculous. The filter wouldn't take more then 15 minutes to change, and I would think an hour or two for the muffler would be more then sufficient.

I assume the carbon parts you are buying are all pre-fit and pre-drilled?

yes they are all pre drilled and i wish i could be home just to ask the guy she talked to how he figured it would take 8 hrs unless hes gunna dyno tune it but i doubt it takes more than an our for that

Perhaps they are going to tune the bike for the mods? I can see them charging that much for that. But otherwise no way.
You wouldnt be able to just put that stuff on yourself when you get back home? It wouldnt take more then a few hours tops.

Unless you're getting it tuned, you should only put on either the pipe or the filter. It'll be running WAY too lean. Just my 2 cents.

Its kinda weird Dave... that's what pretty much everyone has been saying. But I've got a drummer, K&N, and open airbox on mine, but the AFV stays right near 100% (i've seen it go as low as 95%, never above 100) and when I pulled my plugs they were absolutely black.

folmar19 can you just wait till you take mid tour leave (if you haven't already), or can one of your buddies talk to the dealer on your behalf? if you post where your from i'm sure someone would help you if they are in your area. But 1200 bones is ALOT to just install the parts, if your getting a dyno tune its not that bad though.

Ok folmar, if you can field strip a gun, you can change parts on your bike. The tuning after the parts are changed, you may need help with. 1200 bones sounds like a good ol assrape to me. There are alot of resources on this site-people and data......take some time and take advantage of it.
cheers [cool]

Are you sure they didn't think you wanted to buy the carbon from them also.. that would bring it to that price.

thanks guys i called the harley shop and talked to them adn they said they have never played with those mods for an 08 yet and they are going ti dyni tune the bike so hopefully that price was just a rough estimate because they never played with those parts on a bike before but i am from williamsport pa and i am dealing with horsepower hd and buell if anybody on this forum is from around there they have always been like that if you dont go in there with your a game and they know you dont know whats going on they will jerk you around like most shops im assuming and another question i have how extensive is dyno tuning for the bike

i called the harleyshop again today to talk to the actual service manager and finaly i got a strait answer they ordered in a part from asb so they can burn it onto the ecm and he said if i didnt use it the bike would lag between 2 and 5000 rpms he said its not putting on the parts that will take long but tuning it will take the longest so i believe him on that because he is th only compitent guy at the shop that actualy likes his job and takes pride in doing quality work so if anybody goes to horspower hd in williamsport pa and needs something done to there bike make shure they talk to buck thanks everybody again on this forum for the help and all the usefull knowledge its been a time killer looking and reading the articles after a long day of patrols and it helps me relax after a firefgiht just to read and get ideas of what oter people are doing to there buells

thanks again

They must have ordered a direct link key. I dunno man, I still think you're getting ripped off. Those 08's can compensate pretty well. I'd have them install the stuff you ordered, ride it for a bit and see if where your AFV is. If it's not around 100%, then take it back and have it tuned.

First off thank you for your service and come home safe!
Second, if you have any mechanical experience it I would do all of that stuff myself. It takes no more than probably an hour to replace all the body parts. I put the jardine can on my xb9r and it took me like 4 hours just because the oil lines I had to disconnect proved to be a pain since they were just really stuck on there but I think the d&d uses the stock mount (someone correct me if im wrong) but I would just give it a shot on my own before throwing hard earned money to HD.
