yeah, those are the pads i used with the Mothers polish. work great on the older pipes. [up]

Scotchbrite, AKA Russian Kotex.:D

Nice "half polish" there , Jakkal. If you can find an electropolisher, they'd be perfect.

Is this another photo shop deal? Those pipes look gerat!! I will try that myself.Do they come from the factory with some kind of coating that makes the pipes ugly? Is this what happens when the coating is gone?

No, this is no photoshop. :)
Beware, this are the headers right after the polishing job. Like I said before, after a while they get a little brownish tan (no more blue colors), but they keep shining!

I didn't use wd40, after sanding I've used Sidol metal polish to finish the job.

As far as I know there's from the factory no coating or whatever on the headers.

This is how it looks after a while...

How about rustoleum high heat paint its gas and oil resistant and rated to handle up to 2000 degrees

I've used high temp paint on wrapped headers... Looks great for about a year or so, then starts to fade fast!

Well I just spent 20 minutes stroking my pipe. :D I used a scotch brite green pad and WD-40. Looks great for a couple dollars. Took about an hour to do all of it. Still need to put some polish on it yo finish it up.

i did the abrasive pad idear on my firebolt, came up great for such little work, got ride of the 2 years of burnt on dirt and road grime, If youve got 1/2 hr, remove the chin faring first so it looks good all the way down. Cost 30cents and some WD40

Dayum Jakkel! That looks the bomb!

Wonder if anyone's found a way to do this with a Dremel tool or something. Sounds like a winter project. I did Jet-Hot coating on a BMW I had and liked it a lot, but pulling the headers was a lot simpler on that one.

Hey Unekride what kind of tires do you have? They look a little mean. Kinda road worrior looking.[up]

I came across this thread and decided to give Jakkel's method a go while my exhaust is on its way to Randy for modding. I must say that it seemed almost like magic, the gold/brown polished up in seconds. Am really happy with how it turned out!

Yeah i did mine about two months ago. Still looks pretty good, but you gotta polish it once in a while. But i live on the Coast in south Texas. Here everything starts to Rust pretty fast. So im thinking Jet-Hot. Down here even Stainess Steel rusts[sad]

Took me two saturdays and about 10 sheets of sandpaper and two scotch bright pads and half a can of WD40. But it was worth it.
