Ok I have a firebolt and both of my lights are on at the same time. Is the firebolt different than the lightening?

and current creates heat...

current by itself does not create heat. its a combination of current and resistance. so if the resistance is too high it will get excessively hot and if arcing occurs it will start to melt the plug. this could very well be an early warning sign of a poor connection that will eventually melt his plug so its worth taking a look at. Ask me about the time i rode home in the dark with no headlights.

Easier way is to cut. cross and splice the two wires involved using crimp type butt splice connectors...done in a jiffy.

Jus did this mod and its awesome...now jus gotta find some plug wires so i can ride again....if anyone knows where i can get some let me know lol

I don't know how you all removed the wires, but I just tried to for 15 minutes. They wouldn't budge. I pushed and pulled until my hands hurt. There has to be an easier way. . . I feel like I'm going to break something.

Did this last night and i love it. Especially because it was FREE. Thank you for the write-up Speed, and also for everyone elses input.

Is there a way to have dual low beams, and dual high beams? Are the bulbs dual filament, or is one headlight housing shaped differntly to get the high beam effect? I apologise for my ignorance on the subject, but just tossing the idea out there...

I put Halogen/Xenon H7 Bulb from ASB with this modification. According to the product description, "There isnt any difference between the high beam and low beam bulb, its all in the reflector. "

The high beam is created by more reflective surfaces in the housing.

Awesome thread with amazing detail. Just bought an 04 XB9S and was wondering why only one light at a time instead of both like my CBR. This clears up all questions with pictures and everything. First mod I will be doing. Thanks.

Did this mod back in March '12, worked for a few minutes then lights went out. I swapped the wires back to the original position and they worked fine. Tried the mod again in December '12 when I did the S to R conversion, same thing happened. Swapped it back to original again and they work fine as normal.
I have gone over all the grounds, all tight, no corrosion, no frayed or broken wires. Pretty much covered the bike from front to rear, all well and good. My bike is an '03 XB9SL, although she rolled off the same line, and looks like all the others, she's not like all the others. Since the last try of the mod and failing, it's been removed from my list of things to do.
So, my bike is still not like the others...she's now an S and no dual headlight mod:p

Perfect write up. Worked great. A little difficulty getting the nail in their but I got it.

i tried switching the wires in the headlight connector. this was not goo for me cause i lost my parking light in the front (low beam was now on with parking lights) and the circuit now stayed on when i went to start causing my HID to flash constantly while pressing the start button instead of turning off.

on the facebook group this topic came up and someone pointed out a link to the way i have done. this way works much better for me as i keep my parking light and my hid now turns off while holding the start button and then back on when i let the start button go.

all you have to do is locate the connector pictured below. locate the yellow and blue wires, and solder a jumper in between them. super easy.
