What are the yellow and blue wires going to?

I have wondered (because I don't have my bike yet) how the park lights would function with the white/orange wire swap.

Still a good idea to put in a timer for the HID lights.

If o recall the blue wire is the power for the headlights and is fed into the the headlight swiych, yellow is low beam. The white wire all the way on the other side is the high beam. The blue wire feeds power to the switch and then if in low beam feeds power out on the yellow wire to the low beam bulb. By wiring the two wire together you are feeding power to the low beam light constantly no matter what position the switch is in as long as the headlights are supossed to be on.

Hi have done the same mod as DualSportDad. This works heaps better as it turns off the light during starting. I would recommend this mod over the type, which I tried first but didn't like the light still on during starting.

welcome, let me know if it works on your '03, tried twice with mine...worked for a few minutes then both lights went out. placed the wires back in their original position and both low and high beam work normal. kinda gave up on doing the mod, but would like to hear if it works for you, thanks.

Damn i couldnt remove the four wires from that white plastic thing, i had such a hard time! And left it, i didnt want to cut any wire to only swich yellow with the orange! Will try again tomorrow

XB_Albania, you use a small nail to lift the retaining clip inside the housing (there is an animation a few pages back on this thread) while pulling on the wire to get it out.

I am having an issue, perhaps someone can help. I did the wire swap no problem, but all I get is no low beam and regular high beam once I swap the yellow and orange wires. I have a 2009 xb12scg.

I just took a closer look... Looks like the bike has a HID kit installed. This is where things are interesting...

I bought this bike a few months ago, and both headlights would turn on when I have the high beam switch on. When I had low beam switch on, only the parking lights were on. Today, I looked at the wiring and noticed that here was a pretty shoddy soldering job on the headlight plug (missing make connector and wires were soldered in the female connector. I fixed the connectors and plugged in. Low beam and high beam were now back to normal. I then moved the wires for the dual light mod and had the problem of no low beam and only single high beam light. How could the previous owner had wired it to work the way it did??? Did he short two of the wires together?

ocgreenmachine... if you're still having your problem, check the shape of your connectors. When I did this mod, I ended up deformed one or all of my connecters. As a result, once reassembled, the connectors were no longer making contact with the pins in the female plug. I took it back apart and and tried to reshaped each connecter with needle nose pliers, but this was to no avail. I made it worse, I went from just having hi-beams like you to having no lights! After some tinkering, I realized the problem was the connectors were no longer making contact. I fixed it by reassembling the male plug and then stuffing a small amount of wire down each individual terminal inside the male plug and connecting the plugs.

Alternately, you could use posi-connectors or solder for a less "hacked" solution... but I didn't have that stuff handy and wanted it to work now! Either way, mine works great now. Although I do somewhat lament the loss of the hi-beam flash button.

I know this is an old thread but I finally got around to doing this. Like others have posted, the key is to use a small screwdriver or safety pin and (from the bottom of the top half of the white plug) push under the white tab inside that is about half way in. The wires on the top should pop out with very little force. Great write up...
