i want to install HID this summer , but have been told to get the recall done for the headlights, to help make brighter & better.. I dont really feel like letting some HD dealer work on my bike all day or all week maybe, for that matter, or fear of something getting F'ed up or something. so i think I would rather do it my self even if it's going to cost me some money , but rather do it my self on my time , then wait all day (or week) for my bike to get fixed, when i could be doing something else (got cabin fever so any day its nice enough to ride i want my bike here so I can).

so my QUESTION IS; what exactly is all of the parts and correct part numbers, that are REPLACED in the headlight recall for a 2005 XB12R ? so i can buy & order them and replace them my self.. ( also it the same part number as on the 2008-2009 xb12r since they are suposed to have the upgraded reflective matrial in the head light? or is it different? if so i might find a used headlight assembly for 08-09 for the same amount or cheaper..)
HERE IS the recall info below from the NHTSA.
ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated .....

Ok, the thing with recalls is they have to be done by the dealer if you dont want to pay for them. They have to take the old ones out, box them up and send them back to Buell. If you want to replace them you can just go out and buy the new style headlamp assemblies to replace yours. If you run the number from an '05 headlamp assemblies, they will automatically supercede to the new number and new style. I wouldnt be worried about them taking a week to do work like this. Just take your VIN number in to the dealer and have them run it to see if the recall even applies to your bike. If it does, they will order the parts right there and when they come in, they will call you to bring the bike down and have it done. Its literally a 30 min job. I have done them myself here in the shop. If it does not apply to your bike, just go out and buy the '09 and later style headlamp housings for high and low beam. You can tell they are the new style if the have textured glass in the center of both high and low beams in the front.

thanks BPG,
I just looked my buell's headlights and they do have the textured glass in the centers on both. I bought my Xb12r in april 2008 i wonder if the dealer did the upgrade or the previous owner, but the recall didn't come out until july 2008, maybe he replaced it because of the dim lighting low beam before the recall (service bulletin)came out. BUT the low beam is very dim still,(maybe crappy light bulb or something else) is there any other way to see if it has the new lights, like part number on the headlight assembly housing or would the HD dealer be able to look up on some database to see if my VIN has had the recall done(like some car dealers can do with their cars) or anything else ?
