Just got recall 0501 in the mail. I guess it went out in 2008 but I never received it. It's for 03-06 XB headlights. Has anyone had this done? I have noticed that my lights are not too bright and I was thinking I just needed HID's.

No I havn't is that why they are not bright? I keep on having to buy new lights. they also keep on blowing out and I keep on having to buy new ones. I don't even touch the lights with my fingers. they just went out again and this time I'm going to buy hids. I have a 2003 XB9S Lightning.

How do you know if its been done? I have a '06 xb9 but I am not the original owner.

Call your nearest dealer and give them the vin #. they would have it on file in the system.

The recall says that certain XB lights have reflective material that can degrade over time make lights dim. Mine are like this for sure. Hopefully I can get it done asap.

The headlight recall is Not actually a safety recall it was a customer satisfaction recall that Buell put out since the lining of the older style headlight had a tendency to fade or flake off.

As far as anyone getting it done all you need to do is like mentioned call the dealer and they can tell you what recalls are out for your bike and if they have been done or not.

A quick check to see if you have the newer lights is the old style lense is just smooth were as the newer ones have small little circles on the lense glass

I just got it done on my 03 firebolt back at the end of june. they replace the whole assembly for both the high and low beam. my original ones flickered all the time. people would always tell me it looked like my headlight was going out. the new ones are bright and provide a steady "no flicker" beam.

smith2307, did you get an actual recall notice from Buell for your firebolt? If so can you email me a copy of it?

I asked about this recall at my dealer and they told me that it would only be done as part of an original factory warranty; I'm thinking it has to do with xtremelow's post about customer satisfaction vs safety recall.

i just got the recall notice in the mail and it said it was extended until December 2010 and i am the second owner of the bike and it won't cost me a thing. So Hummer i think your dealership just didn't want the hassle of dealing with it.

Hmm - starting to wonder. I bought a HID kit anyways, but I'm not 100% on what the recall covers. Will it make a difference with/without the HID's?

had mine done on my old 9R... My headlights actually failed the day before I got the recall notice in the mail. the new lights were much better. The recall replaces the entire headlight housing/ and bulbs. HIDs would be brighter, but the replacements werent that bad IMHO
