headlight recall

No_import4me, did they send you a recall or a bulletin? Because when I called Harley/Buell support I gave them the bulletin number and they told me it expired. If there is a recall number that differs from the recall number I'd like to know what it is so I can call them back and push the issue.

This is the letter I received back in July 2008. It says the program is good for two years. I took my 03 firebolt in on June 4, 2010 and they installed the new 07+ firebolt headlight assembly (high and low beams). The letter says the program ends on July 10, 2010. Not sure if any dealers still have the headlight assemblies Buell sent to them as part of the customer service replacements.

The headlight bulletin is well worth getting done. I had a 03 xb9r and I think I could have taped a flashlight to the windshield and seen further. Take it in for the bulletin and then install the HID's.

Like I said before. I called Harley/Buell customer service and they told me the bulletin only lasts for 2 years. So it has expired. So even if they have parts they probably won't do it for free.

If they did, I'd like to see some documentation on that extension. Has anybody seen anything official on this extension? My headlights are ****.

i just got the recall notice in the mail and it said it was extended until December 2010 and i am the second owner of the bike and it won't cost me a thing. So Hummer i think your dealership just didn't want the hassle of dealing with it.

I called HD and they looked up the notice and said the dealer would need to call for authorization. The dealer did and they said it is too late and if I wanted it done it would be $300 or so. I'd love to see a notice of extension too.

Greenyone it was a recall letter. when i get home i will scan it into my computer and post it so you can see it. my letter i got was the same that smith2307 posted but was extended until Dec. 2010. i'm guessing they are calling it a customer satisfaction thing so they don't have to be liable for a accident that may come from not having a properly operating headlights.

that sucks dude.

you might be able to order the headlight assemblies for the high/low beam if you can get the correct part #'s for the 07+ models and contact buell on that phone number on the letters and get reimbursed. my letter said if the lights had already been replaced due to the loss of light but not under the recall, they will reimburse your expenses. the lights aren't hard to change out

Looks like I may have to press the issue tomorrow...

Recall or not, I think that's a bit of a safety issue, with or without my HID's. At the very least, I should be able to have it covered through my extended warranty.
