First off, that HJC Copper Carbon fiber helmet looks pretty sick.
Now initially when I went and bought my first helmet, I tried on every helmet in the store. Naturally starting from the high priced helmets because everybody was swearing on their mothers about them. Pretty much I was trying to ignore the price tag so I can make a decision on comfort and fit because I figured they will not make a sell a helmet that doesn't serve it's intended purpose. If they did, there will be some big lawsuits out by now. So comfort and fit are prob. one of the most important things so you can focus on more important things when riding. Too me personally, I just couldn't stand the material of the padding in the high priced Arai's and Shoei's. Then I couldn't stand some of the fits and looks of the lower priced other brand helmets that I can't remember the names to. Then I ended up with the Icon, at the time I never heard of Icon, but when I put that baby on, she fit very well and was the most comfortable helmet I've tried on. The padding material is like a soft underarmor material and the anti-fog lense worked fantastic. But like everyone said, it's all personal preference. A lot of people I know love the padding in their Shoei's and can't stand the padding in the Icon. But they couldn't beat the price of the Icon. I paid $120 for my Icon Alliance, then came back a few weeks later and paid $130 for a second one for my wife. I got 2 helmets for less than one Shoei or Arai. As for protection quality, I've been down with the same helmet twice. I know you're supposed the replace the helmet after one impact, but I literally wasn't able to afford it then. I've been going through some rough patches. Still can't afford another helmet right now, just switched over to my wife's helmet this time. But the first accident I was struck from behind by a car, it hit my rear tire, turned me to the side, slammed me down and ran me over. I slammed my head hard on the left side, so hard a witness said he saw me whole body bounce back up almost upright before the car went over me and slammed me back down. It was a rubatone helmet so it only left a sleight blemish on the impact point, hard to notice. I was conscious the whole time, actually I really didn't even notice that I hit my head that hard. Besides a car being on top of me, my head felt fine. The second accident with the same helmet, I was cut off by another motorcycle, he ended up sideswiping me, knocking my into the other lane, I then hit 2 other trucks, on impact of the 2nd truck, I was thrown over my handle bars, landed on me head and did a head slide for about 20 feet, tumbled for another 30 or some feet before coming to a stop. I was conscious the whole time, actually still remember the sound of my helmet scraping against the pavement and thinking to myself "thank God I decided to wear my full face today". So my point is, the price tag doesn't determine the quality of the helmet. After speaking to several vendors and manufactures, it seems more like the look of the helmet determines the price tag. I'm sure DOT and whoever does the SNELL rating, will not allow a helmet that will not save your life.
