Go on Ebay right after the new model helmets come out they clearance everything. I got two HJC Copper Carbon Fiber helmets for $180 a piece shipped to my door. Matches my translucent orange perfect and is a great helmet.

Just make sure you never buy a high end helmet or youll never disgrace your beautiful head with a cheap one. The fit, comfort, and protection a 400+ helmet provides will spoil your head. When i wrecked on the track i was wearing my Arai and was wake through the whole thing with a 60mph 6ft highside onto my shoulder and head.

Icon helmets are great i wont say they are bad helmets, just that to me since ive head an Arai, my head is worth more then $200 and its worth waiting an extra month or two till i get enough money to get another.

Keep wearing your current helm for alittle longer while you save up money, go try on Shoei, Suomy, and Arai helmets.

Seems like there's been a lot of buzz about the Bell lineup lately. I was speaking with Wes at www.pinkgorilla.com about them and he really recommended them. Some models have the auto-tinting wind-screen which seems like it would be a great feature.

I'm going to 2nd 50dro on this one. I bought the Bell Vortex with the Transitions screen from Wes @ PinkGorilla and couldn't be happier. Helmet ran $179 + around $100 for the auto-tinting face shield. Wes is a good guy and worth spending your $ there.

First off, that HJC Copper Carbon fiber helmet looks pretty sick.
Now initially when I went and bought my first helmet, I tried on every helmet in the store. Naturally starting from the high priced helmets because everybody was swearing on their mothers about them. Pretty much I was trying to ignore the price tag so I can make a decision on comfort and fit because I figured they will not make a sell a helmet that doesn't serve it's intended purpose. If they did, there will be some big lawsuits out by now. So comfort and fit are prob. one of the most important things so you can focus on more important things when riding. Too me personally, I just couldn't stand the material of the padding in the high priced Arai's and Shoei's. Then I couldn't stand some of the fits and looks of the lower priced other brand helmets that I can't remember the names to. Then I ended up with the Icon, at the time I never heard of Icon, but when I put that baby on, she fit very well and was the most comfortable helmet I've tried on. The padding material is like a soft underarmor material and the anti-fog lense worked fantastic. But like everyone said, it's all personal preference. A lot of people I know love the padding in their Shoei's and can't stand the padding in the Icon. But they couldn't beat the price of the Icon. I paid $120 for my Icon Alliance, then came back a few weeks later and paid $130 for a second one for my wife. I got 2 helmets for less than one Shoei or Arai. As for protection quality, I've been down with the same helmet twice. I know you're supposed the replace the helmet after one impact, but I literally wasn't able to afford it then. I've been going through some rough patches. Still can't afford another helmet right now, just switched over to my wife's helmet this time. But the first accident I was struck from behind by a car, it hit my rear tire, turned me to the side, slammed me down and ran me over. I slammed my head hard on the left side, so hard a witness said he saw me whole body bounce back up almost upright before the car went over me and slammed me back down. It was a rubatone helmet so it only left a sleight blemish on the impact point, hard to notice. I was conscious the whole time, actually I really didn't even notice that I hit my head that hard. Besides a car being on top of me, my head felt fine. The second accident with the same helmet, I was cut off by another motorcycle, he ended up sideswiping me, knocking my into the other lane, I then hit 2 other trucks, on impact of the 2nd truck, I was thrown over my handle bars, landed on me head and did a head slide for about 20 feet, tumbled for another 30 or some feet before coming to a stop. I was conscious the whole time, actually still remember the sound of my helmet scraping against the pavement and thinking to myself "thank God I decided to wear my full face today". So my point is, the price tag doesn't determine the quality of the helmet. After speaking to several vendors and manufactures, it seems more like the look of the helmet determines the price tag. I'm sure DOT and whoever does the SNELL rating, will not allow a helmet that will not save your life.

Even though I recommend Bell, I have a Star and the Wife has a Vortex. I read that you cant get your head in a XXL Bell...

Good luck with your search, the best recommendation is to go to a store and try on as many as you can and pick the one that fits "your head" the best.

Oh, btw, auto tinting shield sounds awesome. How well does it work? I'm really interested in it. Is it like those transition lenses for glasses or is it an electronic thing like auto darkening welding mask?

I have it and it works awesome. Dark enough for me and darkens pretty fast when I leave the house. It is the same as Transitions lenses for glasses

sweet, How well does the anti-fog work for the shield? I got spoiled by Icon's anti-fog shields, they work fantastic

I had a Shoei RF-1000 and a Shoei RF-1100 I still think Icon is better. Elitist are gunna hate, I sincerely doubt any shoei, arai, or bell is any safer than an Icon. They may weigh less and provide less wind noise or other fancy lil features, but when it comes to the actual safety of your head, Icon will do its job. I have already bet my life on it twice and they have yet to let me down.

Thanks, I just wish that Giant HJC label peeled off of the helmet it messes with the look of the helmet. Its cleared on so no luck on that one. oh well

I agree with oh9bolt, it darkens pretty quickly (like the lenses, not like a welding shield) and does a good job keeping the sun out. I've never had it fog up and that includes some sub 45 degree rides.

Thanks oh9bolt and dannenvance for the info on the Bell auto darkening shields. I'm definitely going to give it a shot. Just gotta save the money now and give Wes a call.

Yea, that helmet would look way better without the big old HJC logo. It is a white logo though, so maybe you could print over it and it won't be noticeable from a distance.

And those predator helmets look pretty sick, but for safety reasons I wouldn't wear em cause it looks like your field of vision is really gonna get cut down in one of those lol. But cool factor is up there lol

Well I bit the built and got the ICON Alliance Harbinger

I also got the dark smoke lens to go with it.....

That is a sick looking helmet. I love the Icon Alliance, it was my first helmet. I'm still wearing one, but it's my wife's. Conveniently we have the same helmet size.
