Alright guys, hoping there might be some of you who might work in industry, or around a job where you have access to diesel engines.

I'm trying to find a diesel engine to swap into my jeep wrangler. The particular engine is a Cummings B3.3T its a small turbo four cylinder which is used in some industrial equipment such as fork trucks, wood chippers, rollers, ECT. I've searched far and wide online, but they are pretty rare to come across at a decent price. I did find a guy in KS on "Diesel engine trader" but he's charging more than a new one from Cummings would cost me. I only found one on ebay, but it was the Non turbo version, and i'm not really wanting that. they also have one which is all computer controlled which is the QSB3.3 yet i'm not really trying to use that one either. the B3.3T is just the four cylinder turbo mechanical engine, and is the one i'm looking for. So if anybody is in a position where they might know of one for a reasonable price please let me know

Not to nit pick but it is a "Cummins" diesel not "Cummings". Might make a difference on your search results depending upon what search engine you use (you might get a return on an engine instead of porn). [cool]

oops that was just spell check, i usually just go through all my posts and fix everything with a red underline on it.

Why not just a 3.9 4bt? Unless this other engine is a lot lighter or something then I can't figure a reason to go through the hassle of tracking it down.

The 6bt is proven and well covered in the aftermarket and most of the things made for it can be used on the 4bt as well.

I have done this swap myself into a cherokee. went to a local pic a part and there was a 4bt in a bread truck. did not plan on finding it that day and went for a different part but that was the start to my project. i do have to say that was a fun swap and turned out great. raised my resale value greatly too. bought it for 1500 and sold it for 3200. however if you want ease, you can get the turbo diesel out of an older Mercedes and it will bolt right up to the ax15 stock tranny. i had a friend that did that swap and those engines are alot easier to come by. as for where a 4bt is i can not help you out but just figured i would let you know what i did know about them.

the b3.3T is lighter than the 4.2 i have now, makes more tourqe, and will increase my MPG by like 200%!!! I could go with the 4BT, but its heavier, the 6BT is just to much for a YJ in my opinion, i'd probably have to upgrade suspension as well with the 6BT not to sure if the ax-15 would be good with the 6BT either, haven't really looked into that.

^^^ is the link to a thread where a few have swapped a 3.3 into YJ's and trucks and such. oveall the swap seems pretty straight forward I know the thread is WAAAAAY to long, but it all is a pretty informative and an interesting read

I've read into some people that have used the older 5 cyl Mercedes engines as well, its another option i guess if i never end up finding the engine that i want

Grumman built a ton of bread trucks with 4 cly diesels. That would be the best place to find one.Don't hold me to it but a friend had a few some had turbo 400's as trannies and a few had 727's.Not sure why the different trannies but......If you found one with a turbo 400 then just a t-case swap kit to the th400 would make it pretty bolt in.You could also use a 700r in place of the th400.Overdrive plus diesel.

Another thought is a new 5.7 Hemi. The swaps into Dakota's and Durango's is pretty popular.350+hp and in a Durango 18-19mpg.Should be much higher in a YJ.

Try here for all your diesel needs.

I had a 4bt but sold it during the economic downturn. I still have the Ranger I was going to put it in. I also have a BMW 524 turbo diesel and a 1981 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight with a 350 diesel in it and of course I have a 1994 Dodge Cummins with 420,000 miles on it. I might stick the engine out of the beemer in the Ranger. Buells are occupying alot of my time right now.
