My buddy just got a set of HIDs for his CBR. I rode it at night for the first time the other night and the difference/improvement is UNREAL! I am having trouble finding a legit HID kit for my 2009 XB12R. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

They have them for $100 shipped. I have had them for about 2 months and love them. I know other people who have them for longer and have had no problems. Most people get the 6k temp, nice and white with a tiny tint of blue.
It is plug and play, just need to find a spot to mount the blasts. Zip ties are your best friend. It makes a world of difference.

hey I just got a set off eBay for $ 65 shipped! 6000k they are awesome! They don't have to be specifically for the buell, all u need to look for is a dual slim ballast kit with h3 bulbs, they may say they're for cars but don't worry about it just stay away from the motorcycle kits with only one ballast. And make sure they are SLIM Ballast!

Their "raptor" kit is only $40 and has a one year warranty. Their "DDM" kit is $65 and has a LIFETIME warranty. I highly recommend these kits. They also have a very small ballast with the ignitor inline which makes it an easy install on a Firebolt.

The problem with HIDs on Buells is that the headlights turn off temporarily during startup. Fast on-offs like that really hurt the HIDs. Ideally, you want to figure out how to keep it off during that time.

does anyone have any recommendations for where to mount the ballasts? I just received my kit and was wondering if anyone had an recommendations/pictures of their install.

Thanks,

Nick

I tucked the ballast behind the headlight fixture. The pic is blurry but you get the point.

terry did you have the blinker relay mounted above the low beam projector? i have my high beam ballast where yours is, but I had to tuck my low beam ballast farther back b/c of the blinker relay being mounted right where your ballast is.

maybe a difference between the years? mine's an '03 xb9r

also, did you relay them, or just run off stock wiring?

I would strongly encourage anyone that's considering an HID conversion to read the thread that LVSleeper linked above. He added a delay relay to his headlight circuit that saves the HIDs the issue of fast on off on wearing out the ballasts and bulbs like Dave_XB12R mentions above.
