So I had to replace my old battery strap cause it broke and now I find the new one a centimetre or two shorter. I queried it with local Harley dealer and they assured me it was the one for my bike and they say maybe it's stretched? So here's my problem - I have no special tools for this and even soaking the new strap in boiling water helped a little but I still cannot fit this strap! I will be needing a new battery in due course cause mine is getting harder to start so I might wait until then cause #I can see myself now being able to remove this strap once fitted.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I busted mine (the replacement) so I bought a nylon strap from ACE hardware and looped it though the "hooks" provided on the straps to secure it to the frame. I think I spent $6 on this set-up.

Haha, I spent a half hour last week with my dad trying to install the stupid strap. Velcro for me now.

i havnt replaced mine, but its still a pita to take off and put on. some times it goes right on. others ill use needle nose pliers or a long screw driver and brute strenght to slip it on.

Harley dealer said I could get a credit note - I'll do that cause this strap is ridiculous! Thanks for your advise guys.

I feel as if I should facepalm directly through my face into the back of my chair for not thinking about Velcro as a replacement to this INFURIATING strap ... My next mod has just been added to the list ...

factory rubber strap install method:
attach rubber slotted end to tray attachment lip.
with battery in place pull the strap straight up towards you. this stretches strap sufficiently.
now bend strap over battery while continuing to keep it stretched and attach hook to hook hook latch.
works every time.

Tried that and nearly pulled my bike off the bike table!!!

also facepalming for not thinking of the velcro. I left mine unbuckled for months because although I was able to stretch it far enough I just couldn't get the damn thing to latch. Drove me crazy injuring myself every time I tried to get it back on.
