Ok 2006 Firebolt, doing a tail swap to an S tail!!! I have spent double the money on this tail swap then it should have cost and I still cant ride, three months now! The issue:

Got the Diesel Moto spacers on there and the seat rails, however I can not get the damn seat to latch, the seat seems to sit back too far almost into the tail light. I have bent the latch as far back as I can, I have moddified the latch, bent the seat, cussed, screamed, prayed, and done everything I can to get the damn thing to work!!!

I have pictures but they really really dont show the issue!!!! I tried taking the spacers off and the problem remains the same. I dont know what the hell to do at this point!!! Any suggestions? Or is there anyone near the Biloxi Area who works on these I can go to??? Thanks everyone

Mike

Octo I been wondering the same but the seat is an S, talked to the guy I got it from (Good friend of mine) and it is an S also one of the rails was bent had to order one so I know the rails are S? dave I will try at work computer not at home

If you are having the issue even after modding the latch as in the pic I sent you, I would also question as Max did on the possibility of having a wrong seat.

I also know if you have any of the thicker seats they are much harder to bend to latch, versus the low seats.

Pics like Dave said will help.

Heres what mine looks like, I noticed that the center of the latch is right in-between the front two screws for the tail light piece.

Also, is the latch operational, and unlocked? Good luck man

Mike why is your tip over sensor in the rear?
Also why isn't your brake res where it should be?

I'm not Mike, but if you mean my pic above, the tip over sensor is there cause that's where the kid I bought the tail section from had it (mine is still hooked up and functional in the firebolt front end). And the brake reservoir is off my firebolt tail, I didn't get the lightning one, and that is the best secure place I could find for it :)

Thats not mine jake. These are, these are the only pics I have at work with me

Xtreme I have the low and thick seat I been bending the **** outta the low trying to get it to do something???

Without the Spacers and with the thicker seat

Bad shot but the back of the latch

I have the low seat I been trying to use cause I like it best. Latch is operational and unlocked, the u shaped part on the seat (I am not a mechanical person so sue me for the terms!! HAHAH) is about 1 1/2 inch to 2 inches too far toward the tail light to latch into the latch

I am not sure how I can help, but here are pictures of my S seat that the guy before me did. I think it may be an SCG seat. Can anyone confirm?

And to close it, I always look for this lining up (picture is "upside down" because I'm leaning over from the left side, looking in the right side) and once that is lined up, I get behind it like doggy-style and slam down and forward hard (hard enough that I need it to be in gear so it doesn't roll).

Good luck!

I wonder if my undertray could be wrong? It seem the front hole that holds the seat in is too far back? And the latch is too far back toward the tail light? Anyone have an S untertail laying round?

Batman, are you talking about that elongated plastic piece that is halfway up the seat?

On my conversion, it appears that it is supposed to slide into the appropriate hole in the seat pan, but it never does. Is that a safety risk? I always thought it was OK with just having the back 3 points latch in and the front of the seat would be held in by the airbox cover and rider weight.

Hey I realize you got the same problem kinda skyrocket but now I am wondering if he is answering mine or yours brother. Thats why we dont "Thread Jack" round here. It takes away from the OP's (Original Poster) issue. Now Batman are you talking bout mine or his??

He's talking about yours. I am not trying to thread-jack. I am trying to help you with your problem by comparing it to my bike.

You have a problem with your S seat and tail conversion. I said to myself, "Hey, that guy's got problems with something that is just fine on my bike. Well ****, he needs pictures so he can help troubleshoot his." I got off my lazy ass and went down to the garage and took my seat off, found a tape measure and held it up there, took some pics, came back to the computer and uploaded them and posted them. I took them JUST FOR YOU, BUDDY!

Now I ask someone else who's trying to help you to clarify what they're talking about, because, on mine, it isn't a problem. So it probably wouldn't be a problem on yours.

Glad you're so appreciative of all the help.

Well I was wrong and read it wrong, you were asking confirmation on your seat, I appologize and appreciate the effort, I just wanna ride my damn bike!!!!! Your pictures did give me some ideas to look at. I thought your's wasnt latching either but in a diferent way, once again my appologies

1) what is the code that is marked on the bottom of your seat? I will look and see if it is the same on mine.
2) Do you have spacers or just regular seat rails
3) Do you have a picture of the front seat latch hole?

I am thinking mine could be the wrong undertail or maube just in the wrong location???

I agree with batman6669, looks like the front is not hooked in.

Can you get us a pic of the whole tail section? Maybe one of us can identify something that is causing the problem.

I will when I get home. I will get the HD camera out and try to get the high quality pics instead of cell phone, what exactly would you need to see?

the correct part number for the under tray, is right below the latch but partially hidden by the battery tray is M0756.1AD

Well xtreme I have the same part number so that's not it. Here are more pic's these are without the spacers on it. It acts like the front doesn't want to go in now. It goes maybe 1/4-1/2 an inch in the front slot. I've tried pushing shoving hitting nothing helps it go in? (Giggidy)
