HID's. The who's and what's about them.

So the headlights on my firebolt SUCK (that is an understatement). I've read about the reasons why and of course the buell recall on them is expired so I need to step up to HIDs. I honestly have a little trouble seeing anything around me at night they are that bad.
I searched the forums for a while but the search option on the site is lackluster to say the least and I found nothing. What is the recommended brand to go with for HID's in a Firebolt? (2004 12R if that makes a difference or not).
Also, what is the recommended brightness?
This is only partially to make the bike look good and 90% for safe night riding.

ddm tuning has great HID set ups for a good price. Been running em in my bolt now for nearly 2 years. I run the 35W at 6K color temp. I have been running the full size raptor kit in 55W 8K in my car now for close to 5 years. The 55W washes out the color a lot, the 8K 55W is comparable to the 6K 35W. the 6K 35W bulbs have a very light blue tint to them.

Looks beautiful. Exactly the color I'd like. Just enough tint to show blue but not be obnoxious.
Do you have yours set to run both lights at all times or do you still have just the one side low beam and other side high beam?

Also, what bulb type do we use?
And did you need to use all the other things from the drop down menus? (HID harness, error eliminator, adaptor cables, mounting brackets)

I have the 55w 8k thin ballast kit on my firebolt. Love it. I cant remember exactly if its the h1 or h3 bulb. I did not get any of the drop down boxes.

I had the same dull light problem. I actually bought the new style headlight assembly with the rings in the glass lens up in the front center. Worked amazingly well.

But then also went to ddm 55w 4500K. Its stupid bright. I can never ever use my highbeam unless there is absolutly no traffic. If i did it again, I would have bought a single kit for just the low and kept halogen for the high so i can flick it on and off quickly.

I'm not sure if a HID will fix your problem if the reflective coating in your light assembly is all faded away. Yea you will have a brighter light, but the distance it will travel i'm not sure will be what your expecting.

Ya to really get a difference in the lighting your going to have to upgrade the lens and reflectors.
HIDs will help but will be more of a bandaid till you upgrade them.

Where can you buy the upgraded factory headlights? Hopefully somewhere other than Harley as they like to add a 100% "harley tax" to everything they sell [down]

i have the DDM tuning 55w 6ks for high and low on mine. amazing compared to the stock lights. i have to say though if i could change it i wouldnt have gone with the HID highbeam. it takes a few seconds to get warmed up so for the quick "need to see for a second with my high beams then shut them off before i blind this on coming car" it kinda sucks.

That's a good point. I was thinking about starting off with just one to see if I like it and save a little money in the process.

I ordered the DDM Tuning HID kit, but not happy with customer service there. Ordered my kit on April 11th. Immediately received an order confirmation, but no tracking. Today is the 19th and still no tracking. I emailed them yesterday with no repsonse. I called them directly at about 3:45pm central time and the DB that answered the phone A)hated his job, B)couldn't care less, & C)sounded like he hated his life.

I explained that I had not received any tracking and wnated to verify the item had shipped. To which he most defiantly replied that the item hadn't shipped yet.

I asked him why and he replied becuase they get their kits from China.

I then informed him of his websites policy on how long it takes for orders to fill and deliver.

Of course, not only was he not aware of the websites policy, but he didn't seem to give a shit and said they are expecting them late next week from China to Toronto, then they will ship to California, then to me in Texas.

I know there have been many people on this forum who recommend them, but had I known this process would take this long, I would've purchased from another vendor.

Rant complete. Hope I didn't bust anyone's bubble on this, but I feel like others should be aware of their policies that are different than what their website reflects.

It took about a month for me to get mine to Netty. Seriously a month. I had even forgotten I ordered them and when they showed up I still had no idea what it was. Once we found a tracking # it showed to be stuck jersey for a week or so before making it down here. But I have it now and happy.

I'll wait a month for something if I know I'm waiting a month for something. If a company tells me ships in 2 days, delivers in 7-10, that's what I expect.

I'm sure if I cancelled my order, it would take 6 weeks to get my money back so might as well just wait! Effers!
