Highway foot pegs

Bad news, the local machine shops gave me too expensive price for the brackets and I've already bought a new set of passenger footpegs with all fixtures. The best price is $1,040 for a pair ($520 ea).

So I've decided to make the brackets completely flat from standard 1/4" aluminum plate and I ordered universal Ryca folding foot pegs for the brackets.

Today I threw the CAD files and the drawings in a local waterjet cutting shop and it should be significantly cheaper and faster.

Here are the CAD files and drawings you can use

The flat brackets use the same set of screws ans spacers I mentioned before. The only extra screw is for the Ryca folding foot pegs. I believe 3/8"-16 Thread, 1" Length should work, I ordered it here http://www.mcmaster.com/#92235a523/=y8rhnc

I don't know if you saw in my first post but I said it was going to be too expensive. the amount of time and cost for material is expensive. If you made a run of 100 or so then the cost would drop.

In my previous post, I also mentioned you should just do these out of flat stock and have a welder weld the foot peg tabs on. Much cheaper and you can still use the passenger pegs.

$520 is the price for one part with the welded features. It is 100$ cheaper than the part made of whole piece of metal.

The waterjet shop price is $180 for the both brackets. I hope I will have them soon. I'm going to paint them black by flameproof paint.

Sweet! That's a much more reasonable price...
Have you thought about doing powder coating? You can get into it pretty cheap and do it with a junk electric oven. It's so easy to do and comes out so even!
Can't wait to see everything installed!

The brackets are ready. Instead of powder coating I'm going to paint it with WHT paint.

Here is my home maid highway food pegs kit

Nice looking, would be a good addition for a Uly. BTW, what headlight is that? Looks like an 1190SX.

Very nice setup.

The headlight is LSL urban.

OK, last night I tested the footpegs on a highway. I like sitting position. There is no issues with the exhaust pipe heat. The only issue is vibrations. The footpegs vibrate so hard you can not feel your legs after a few minutes. Legs go numb after 5-10 minutes and the footpegs vibration is very annoying. It is OK to stretch legs for couple minutes after long riding using the footpegs. But it is not OK to keep legs on the footpegs all the time. Engine RPM almost does not affect on the footpegs vibrations.

I don't know how turboraven feels about his highway footpegs vibration, they are mounted directly to the exhaust fastener. I see another guy uses the footpegs mounted to the exhaust too and he is OK with it http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/572408.html?1277272781

I am going to wrap the footpegs with foam and try them on the highway again. Maybe I will try to put rubber washers between the footpegs and the brackets.

Yes, it can help, but I don't think it can totally eliminate vibrations. Tonight I tested foam wrapped around the footpegs. It reduces vibration but not completely.

I bought adhesive foam with different hardeness

Then I wrapped the foodpegs with two layers of foam and covered it by Gorilla tape

I used different foam with different hardness and it looks like softer foam is better.

The another way to reduce vibrations is to use thick wool socks with motorcycle boots.
