As an aside to Roccodart440 getting his bike stolen, how about a list of things we all do to keep our bikes safe? I'll start if it's ok...I NEVER leave my bike out at home where it can be seen. I come home, BOOM! it's in the shed. If they don't know it's here, they can't steal it. Who's next? Wayne

I park my bike in a stall parallel to a wall, then I park my car in front of it, so the only way the bike could get stolen is if my car was stolen too. It's worked out ok I guess.

+1 on putting it in the "Stall". I'm lucky to have the space in the garage 'cause I'd hate to have to leave it outside.

(Edit: Oh, and I use the steering lock also.)

I park inside a 14 unit gated garage and pull front of my 2 spaces against a concrete wall and chain the front tire up to a huge water pipe/pole with the "Fahgettaboudit" Kryptonite U lock. Then I put on a rotor Kryptonite lock on the rear.

And finally, I park my car flush behind my bike.

Park mine in my garage.

And just cause when I am at even a store I turn the forks so I can lock them, seems small but everything can deter someone even if only a little.

Yeah someone would be dumb to not take advantage of the convenient for lock.

EVERYTIME I GET OFF I LOCK IT! Even in the garage or when I'm getting gas haha (I know I'm paranoid)

it's habit for me to fork lock, always...

I also have a disc brake lock, and I usually park on the sidewalk in front of wherever I go. Also, I garage it at the house in a nice neighborhood

:)

Just knowing your area will help greatly too. If you will be somewhere not the beat check in your bike now and again.

When I go places with my truck I check it as much ad possbile. Even with full coverage.

thinking of stolen bikes I do want to start that new bike project....?????

I own a queenslander home which in yankee land would be a pole home. I welded in a 316 stainless 1/2 inch chain to a structural post under the house. I lock it always just in case.

Ps, I thought everyone steering locked their bikes????? Thats basic. Fact is anyone wanting to cut a stainless chain will need a power tool which makes noise. VERY Cheap insurance.

Buy a Buell! A few months ago my friends garage got broken into. Inside were 8 bikes, all crotch rockets plus my xb9s. The crooks loaded 1 bike into the van and pulled 2 down the block, luckily my friend got up to go take a piss and saw them. They had hotwired the 2 bikesdown the block in the process broke the top tree because the steering was lock. They were in such a rush to leave they forgot their helmets which we turned into the police for fingerprinting. Luciky they only made off with 1 bike.

My personal favorite. Full Coverage. They can have it, and I get a new one. :D

Serious side... I live in an apartment with no garage, so when I leave it at home the steering is locked and I park it in front of my truck. The company I work for has a huge shop, and the boss is nice enough to let me keep my bike there. So it stays in a locked warehouse when it's not at home. It sleeps there for the winter too.

If I had a ground level apartment the bike would stay in my living room, just cause it makes me happy to even look at it.

EDIT:
I also use(d) a rotor lock on the back tire until it broke... What can I say, buy a good one. I installed it on the rotor, walked away and heard it fall onto the ground. The whole lock mechanism just fell out of it. NICE!

I have a cement forming board in my dining room, AKA my Buells bedroom. At night thats where she goes, and when im not at home, well thats cuzz im riding Her.

Whoa doesn't sound like the equipment I'm using lol :D

all, its unfortunate we have to live with this fear but it happens all too often. my brother had his entire rig jacked, trailblazer, trailer and bike. he got the car back but the enclosed trailer and bike are most likely at swap meets. he had huge harley stickers on the side and back of the trailer which made it a target.

i told the dumbarse to put "live snakes" on the his new trailer.

bottom line is, if they want it they'll take it.

6 foot cable w/ master lock through frame back tire and swing arm. when a pole presents itself there's even more security(i always lock forks). but i only take the cable when i might park in danger, cuz its a pain lugging it around on a naked bike. At home i use cable locke in locked garage with car parked in front of door...........and Smith and Wesson,Kel-tec,Remington,etc. etc.

I purchased underground parking at my college and we have campus security that watches the entrance 24/7

we also have free outdoors parking with 24/7 surveillance and patrolling cars, never heard of anyone having anything stolen off campus

but when I'm at home my parents keep a spot right next to my Dad's Yamaha saved for me

even still, I'm very close to getting LoJack installed on my bikes for when I'm in the questionable parts of Milwaukee

I never leave my bike alone for more than a couple hours unless I've got it in one of my storage locations

in addition to all this, I've got full coverage on my Buells anyway haha
