Hello,

I hope to sell my Monster soon so I can get into a Lightning.

I have respected the Buell's design and engineering (well, maybe not the engine LOL) for years and now may be a good time for me to switch brands. Not much for sale locally at this time.

Michael

It's the same type of bike as a Monster, but a whole different experience. Mostly in a good way:black_eyed: They are addictive and super fun!
Which Duc do you have?

Hey Michael, welcome to the board! I know how you feel about the engine. However, did you know that Erik Buell took his brilliant design skill after he left Harley and opened up his own shop, called Erik Buell Racing? He didn’t make many bikes at EBR (like 1200 or so), but they’re exactly what you’re looking for. They have the unbelievable design that he’s known for, plus an engine that is still competitive with superbikes everywhere. And best of all, it isn’t a de-tuned engine from a race bike, like the Monster. It’s a full fat beast.

Also, since EBR went under, you can get brand new bikes cheap.

However, I own both. They’re totally different, but in the same way two brothers are.

Either way, you’re going to have a huge grin on your face every time you ride.

I want to like the 1125 - great value and performance, but I cannot get past the scoops and plastic. I don't like fairing bikes. Even the Firebolt is too much for me. I could live with the 1190SX naked, but still prefer the simple, clean, and timeless looks of the Lightning. Engine performance is secondary for my desired purposes. Same reason I bought the Duc although that engine is actually better than I thought and has a fantastic sound and feel.

Great! Then the Lightning sounds like the perfect bike for you! If you need help finding the right XB, there are tons of people here who would be happy to give you all the advice they have. Good luck!

Like gdisaac07 I have an XB12Ss and a EBR 1190 as well, the EBR is worlds apart from the Buell but the Buell has so much character and likeability that I can't imagine not owning both. I have quite a few mods into my XB12Ss (big bore, head porting, cams, exhaust, intake etc.) and it has allot more guts than stock but it will never match the EBR. If you want something that can hang with the Panagali then the EBR is where you should look, and of course get a Buell as well. But if you want something like that monster the Buell will be very familiar.

I for one like the HD engine, I always have liked the sound and torque that it offers, but not the big sloppy easy chair they have for a chassis. That is my favorite thing about the Buells, that HD power plant in a sporty chassis.
