Hello everyone.

My name is Bryan and I live in Rhode Island. I just made a deal to buy my first Buell. Now I need to get my wife to give me a ride out to Connecticut to pick it up.

I currently ride a 2010 H-D Police Electra Glide. A couple of years ago I had it all souped up. Stage 3, they call it. That’s headers, Vance and Hines exhaust, S & S air intake, a more aggressive low end power cam, and a dyno tune. It is way faster than any police bike that I have ever ridden. It’s a top heavy 900 pounds and I love riding it, but I thought it would be nice to get something lighter and more nimble. So I started looking at Buell.

I always loved the Buell bikes but I wasn’t sure which model I would choose. Back in 1989 I got my first bike, a Yamaha FZ600, then I stepped up to a Honda Hurricane 1000. So, I definitely like that sitting position, or at least I did back in the day. But in my thirties I switched over to Harleys so I am used to sitting upright with my feet forward.

Once I started looking at Buell I discovered the Ulysses. I wasn’t familiar with the model but I was immediately drawn to it. I loved the headlights and the front rotor. I like the upright position with the tall handlebars. And it has the deep Harley lumpy rumble that I love.

Funny story about my first bike…I was 19 years old. I bought it with my own money and rode it home. My Mom said that I didn’t ask her if I could get a motorcycle. I responded that I am 19 so I am a man. She said that men pay rent so I would now have to pay $50 per week.

Welcome from another (fairly) new member, just bought a 2009 XT.

For posting an image, click on the third to the last icon above the text box (hover over it and it comes up Insert Image). There may be a file size limit so you may have to resize.

Your link sent every picture you have on Flickr. Nice Guitars! Like, really nice:)

For Flickr: On Flickr, pick the picture you want to send, then hit the right turn arrow (bottom right), select BBCode in that pop up box (if it isn't already blue underlined already) then choose a size (medium is good), copy that link. All that will automatically be chosen next time.

Then on BuellXB just paste that in the box you type in to post. 'Clean-up' that pasted code by only posting what is between the {img} brackets. Sounds like a pain but honestly very easy.

Good luck on your Uly, they are great bikes! Just did about 400 miles on my '10 RoadGlide yesterday;)

I like it a lot! To me it is very BMW Boxer-twin like (with the understanding that my newest one will be 30 next year) but much more nimble and better suspended. Did you get an X or XT?

Thank you very much Cooter. I sold one Les Paul and one PRS to pay for the Ulysses. The Road Glides are really nice.

Murphy dog, I got the X. I’m only 5’8” and I am tip toed with both feel down. I bet if I had a boot with a heel I could be flat footed. But the tall suspension is so smooth, I can hardly feel the bumps at all compared to my Electra Glide.

I bought it from the original owner. He was so nice and it was obvious that he loves this bike. He customized it subtly and I love everything that he did to it. He is 77 and he won’t be riding anymore so it was a little sad. My wife was crying a little. He gave me his blue leather Alpinestars jacket that matches the Uly. It’s a perfect fit. I will wear it from now on. I am very lucky that I got to meet him and get the bike from him.

Several tasteful, subtle mods…ceramic coated pipes, shortened front turn signals, rear license plate, modified front blue shield shaved at the bottom slightly, clear windscreen top edge shortened slightly, different mirrors, EBR race module, removed the black plastic front fender, shimmed the blue front fender to change the angle, removed the passenger back rest.

I'm always afraid to look when someone says this. Yours doesnt look half bad, though.

Since you dont have the lower fork guards and have removed part of the Uly front fender, you may want to look into a Lightning or Firebolt front fender.

I was also going to recommend looking into the leg guard for the rear header pipe, but I wonder how much the ceramic coating sheds off the excess heat. If you have a laser temperature probe, please take a reading on it.

Looks good. I see it's been on the dragon !. Little blue sticker shows it had a good time.

Very clean bike! It looks like it has the lower (XT) seat on it? That would make sense since you are close to getting both feet flat at 5' 8".

My local Buell service guy tells me (at 6' 3") that he thinks the X seat is tall.

Good looking bike!
It also has an XT shock on the rear. I can’t tell from the picture it may also have the shorter forks as well. If you measure between the seal and the lower bracket on the forks I just checked my XT might be some variation but 4 5/16in. At 5’8” you wouldn’t even close to flat footing a Uly X even with the low seat. Seems the original owner was meticulous about making the bike as nice as possible and to fit.
Enjoy!

Those forks are X so I doubt someone put an XT shock on it. X forks have the rearward offset down by the axle bolt.

Every 08’ and up X models I have seen ( and I’m on my second) had the lower seat. I’m 6’ and I can flat foot the tall seat on my X.
