Im getting a Buell in the next two weeks. I looked at this 1125r today, and just wanted to know what you all thought.

The guys asking $3500, but there are some issues.

1. Its been dropped on the right side, so I need a new front brake lever and handle bar. The radiator pod is loose, and its missing the passenger pegs which I will need.

2. The paint/plastics are shot. Its all scratched up, so I will have to either buy new ones or have these painted. The windscreen was spray painted on the inside.

3. The belt is not riding flush up agains the flange on the sproket, its about 1/8th of an inch away, and barely hanging over the edge.

4. There is oil residue on the case where the gear shift is? Is this a known issue?

However. It does seem to be in good mechanical condition. It runs fine, and tracks straight. Oh, did I mention its got GOOOBS of power. LOL yeah. It has an FMF pipe, no ECM, but It wasnt flashing a light at me. The brakes are firm, but need to be adjusted for my riding style.

Im not worried about cosmetics so much as the oil residue, and the belt. I wanted a white one anyway, so I would just paint this one, and fix everything else. But I DO NOT want to be taking the motor out of it in 3 months to replace a gasket of some sort. Im in that situation now with another bike.

What say you oh Buellers?

Stock handlebar is about $22. Might be a bit less for the lever.
Look at the K-bracket bolts and the bracket itself if it moves a lot.
No idea how much the passenger pegs are, check ebay.
A full set of brand new plastics will run about $700 as I recall. Maybe a little more, I don't know for sure.
The belt location is (probably) normal, I don't think mine is up against the flange either. Some fraying is normal too. Check the rear axle bearings for wear/looseness.
Oil residue just ahead of the shifter? That's the oil filter. It might just have been a messy oil change. Look a little closer, make sure of where it's leaking. Take pics and post them here if needed.

Thanks for the info!

I dont know what the K-bracket is?

These plastics can be painted right, I want a color that you cant get stock?

From your description the belt is probably ok.

Good call on the rear axle bearings, will check next time I am over there. It didnt have any wierd riding quirks over bumps or anything though.

Will check oil leak better next time.

Thanks.

So far Im going to make him an offer of $3000. I hope he takes it. Do you think that is a good price? Also forgot to mention its an 05 with 9,500 miles.

You cant go wrong at that price i see one a while back in worse shape for $3500 so good luck i hope you get it

The K-bracket is what the pods are bolted to. One on each side. Grab the pod and push/pull on it. See where it moves at. If it's the bracket, it will be pretty obvious. It's one of the parts that will break in a crash or hard tip-over, although it's rare.

Yes, the plastics can be painted, just need to use the right paint.

Btw, it's an 08, not an 05.

The right side pod was the only loose one. The left side pod was solid. It seems like it was just the outside part of the pod that was loose.

To tell you the truth its been probably 8 years since I was on a bike this powerful, and this thing scares the crap out of me. But, that is a good thing because if Im scared of it I will respect it. Im not scared of my current bike, and I over ride its capabilities, almost over the edge a couple times now.

All Im waiting on is some money Im coming into next week. After that. Its basically done!

Woot!

Good deal, and yes they are fast!

Respecting the bike is only 1/3 of the equation, self control and skill development are the other 2; make sure you don't neglect them. A more powerful, more capable bike means if you do get in over your head you'll likely be going MUCH faster than on a lesser bike. Just be careful.[up]

Other than my "mommy advice" I'd offer 3,000 and no more. I've seen clean 1125's around here go for 4000-4500.

Yeah its an 08. Ive been looking at so many ads they are running together, lol.

I never would have gotten a bike this fast when I was younger. I have the self control not to act like an idiot now, so thats the only reason Im even thinking about it. I doubt I would ever be able to ride this bike to its fullest potential, but man is it comfortable.

I found another one that Im considering. Its white and blue, never dropped for 4200. If this guy wont come down to 3000 Im going to look at that one.

Personally, if I were the one buying, i would hold out and buy one that didn't need work. For another 1000 bucks you can get one in perfect shape..That will be worth the time and money that you would have to put into this one to get it right.

But either way, you're getting a Buell! [up]

You did say in your first post that you wanted a white one anyway. If I were you I'd check out the white one for 4200. Its the color you want, never been dropped and you wouldn't have to worry about painting or fixing, just go straight to modding it how you want :D
