Slow speed, you'll find in the MSF class, is opposite of riding speed. Riding speed is into the turn, slow (putting around) speed is opposite. Once you try it, the proof is in the pudding. :D

Welcome chinaren. I bought a 2004 lightning XB12s as my first street bike. It is a big bike, but you use your melon and don't try shit you don't know how to do you will be fine. My suggestion is to try and find a bike that is stock. Maybe search the dealer in your area, or even surrounding states. It would be a great idea for a roadtrip!!!! Good luck finding a bike, and post pics when you get it.

NieHow nan-ren!
I just bought a 2009 XB12Ss a few weeks ago and I love it. It's my first street bike in about 20 years. When I started looking at the Buells, I thought about going for a used bike too, but with the 2010 models coming out, and the 09's still in the showrooms, now's a good time to buy new. The difference in price between a good used one & a new 09' isn't so much right now.

I don't know about the older models, but as far as the new bikes go...

I also thought the 900 might be plenty of bike for me (I'm not looking to race anybody with it anyway), but when I looked at the specs, there's only a few pounds difference in weight, and $$. I think the 1200 is a better overall value. I took one for a ride and found it to be very easy to handle. It feels like it's much lighter than it really is, and it really is light for a 1200 (400 lbs.).

You didn't give your height, but based on your weight I'm assuming your not 6'+ tall, so you should checkout seat heights. If you check the specs you'll see the 900 is actually pretty tall... the same height as the 1200-Ss (long) The 1200-Scg is significantly lower, and might be easier for anyone on their first bike.

This might be sacrilege on this board, but If you really just want a dependable commuter bike, you might want to just go Japanese. That is.. if you dont mind looking like a comic book clone, and you dont mind the constant whining.

PS: You...
"commute to work every day for 60 miles of highway riding"

After I bought the Buell my commute got allot longer because of all the twisty new "shortcuts" I was able to find!

Thanks again all of you guys,

Joe Deasy: Ni Hao!!

Do you mind I ask you how much did you get your 2009 XB12Ss for? I am 5'10" tall FYI...

I payed the dealer $9400 & they delivered it to my front door. The government took their $800 cut on top of that. Good Luck. 88

Your best friend when looking for a used bike is time. Hopefully you arent in a hurry, because the lack of time will end up costing between 500 and 1,500 dollars. You should spend at least a month pricing "S" models, not only in Utah. After a month of searching, you will know exactly what you want/should pay. Then get the cash in hand and be ready to jump when "the" deal presents itself. You'll be waiting for that one deal that is priced to sell, so it will probably only be on the market one day, so jump fast and be prepared to pay the full asking price. Thats exactly how I found a spotless 08 12r for 6 even. Its easy if you have TIME.

Well, woooOOOooow, That was awesome tips from you guys. I will keep looking around, and have the cash in hand. So long brother and sisters of Buell, I will keep you posted when I bought my Buell.
