Hey guys, anybody have this backpack (Icon Squad II)? I watched a vid review of it and it seems pretty well thought out but I heard that the original ones were JUNK.

I nearly bought the squad 2 at a convention where I got to really inspect it. Seen quite a few on base as well, the owners seemed quite happy with them. The only thing that held me back was that I wouldn't be able to carry it in uniform once I was off the bike. I ended up going with the ogio no drag and the ogio pack pelt to meet the reflective requirement on base. Really like the ogio, and I can pull the pack pelt off and wear it with my uniform as well.

I have one and I love it. Nothing I don't like about it,accept the orange has faded a bit. Easy to wash. Tough material. Over all a badass bag!

Not sure what branch you are in but the Navy has an instruction (or rather it is part of the uniform reg's; Ch. 6 I believe) that states that they may wear their PPE from their bike into work. Since that particular bag is reflective, it should be considered part of the rider's PPE according to OPNAVINST 5100.12h. Not saying that it would apply to YOUR branch Miami78 but they might have something similar...

Oh yeah, no problems wearing it from the bike into work, but once I'm at work if I need to carry it somewhere while still in uniform I can't. With the ogio I just pull off the 'pack pelt' and I'm good to go.

Love this backpack. I would have designed some things different but overall i haven't found one i like better. I get quite a bit of compliments too.

note:I removed the arm reflectors which are included.

PROS:
-Looks cool [smirk]
-Waterproof
-strong buckles and clamps.
-pouches are in convenient spots. (cell phone on the chest)
-doesn't move around on your back during aggressive riding
-capable of holding large items with the out side straps.

CONS:
-velcro card holders on the shoulder. Hit 90 mph and one off, holding my credit card and License
-my icon helmet (size xL) wont fit easily in the helmet pouch.
-wish it had hip straps cause heavy loads start to weigh on the shoulders.
-rubber bottom is starting to scratch my rear seat cowl when i sit upright.

Those CONS dont seem out of this world to me but it is an expensive pack. Well, is it worth the $125 price tag?

There's a seller on eBay with it for $110 shipped. I could swear I found it for $100 when I was looking at backpacks last year...was offered a demo model for $80 at a convention, came so close to getting it then...

Yeah, I saw that one and almost jumped on it but I really wanted the "yellow" one. Now $80...that sounds more realistic.

Like i said its an awesome backpack so i had to dig deep to think of CONS.

How much "stuff" will this thing hold, btw? Will it hold enough "stuff" plus the usual bike necessities (oil, an extra shield, a couple of wrenches) for a 3 day trip?

I have this backpack too. I like it. I'm with onelogue, it isn't a perfect backpack and some things I wish were a little different but it does everything I need it to do and the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Especially if you need to ride on base.

I can carry a set of gym clothes (shoes, socks, shirt, boxer briefs, small towel) and my food for the day in the main pouch. Check books, camera, gum and some other odds n ends in the upper outside pouch with room to spare. Earphones in a little pouch on the side. Lock for my locker on the other little pouch on the other side. Wrist wraps in on of the little mesh pouches that is on both of the side pouches that buckle in the back.

I wish it could hold little more. I would like to put an extra change of clothes to ride home in after the gym so I can shower there and not get my helmet/jacket all sweaty. I will probably get a tail bag sometime to help with this though.

I got the bag for $93 brand new. I'm happy with it. The rent-a-cops going on base were starting to not let me on without something bright colored/reflective so it was the first one that I saw that was almost all brightly colored so I ordered it.

*Edit - and it has an extra shield pouch in the main cargo area.
