Ok, so I fudged up a bit last night, and bike wont start now. I was in need of a new battery for my 2008 1125R, and I went to Walmart (I know...probably first mistake) to find one. I looked up in their little computer for a 2008 Buell, but it didnt let me specify the model and instead just suggested the battery that I ultimately ended up buying.

OK, Second Mistake, and probably biggest- I didnt check the battery's positive and negative terminals and just assumed they were in the same position as the old battery. Afterall the batteries looked identical and the connections from the bike only reached so far.

long story short...connected the positive lines to the negative port and the negative lines to the positive. Please spare me the shit comments....I KNOW that I messed up, let's not beat a dead horse/ kick me while I am down.

What I have done
- unhooked the cables and hooked them up correctly
- charged the battery overnight on a trickle charger, battery shows fully charged

I decided to step away from the whole thing last night before I jacked it up further, but are there any ideas on where to start the repair other than the fuses? and possibly ECM? any help is greatly appreciated!

I would reccomend hooking it up correctly and then see how everything works. If you have issue, start with your fuse's and then work forward. Might have to break out the good ol eletrical schematics and get you a multi meter if you have issues. How long did you have it hooked up like that, well with the ignition on?

I only turned the key once and had it turned off as soon as I noticed that nothing happened (approx 1.5 seconds ). The battery itself was hooked up like that for what seemed like an eternity at the time, but in retrospect looking back it was actually only like 2 minutes... maybe.

Ill start looking at fuses tonight and hopefully I will fix it. I have my stock ECM still, so if it is the ECM I at least have a fix.

You killed the fuse. A buddy did that on his r6, took it to the shop they said the computer was fried and it would be 1600. I told him it wasn't the computer but a fuse instead. He dug around, found it and that fixed the problem. That's what's fuses are for!!

I tried the beer first method last night thinking it would be a simple task to change the battery... I mean I have done it several times on my cars and my other bikes. I was already a bit frustrated anyway because the battery placement on the 1125 is just retarded to say the least. You have to take off the tail plastics to get to it, and then it is located underneath a bar on the subframe. You have to remove the housing for a fusebox to have enough room to shimmy it out from under the bar. I'm pretty sure my old xb I just had to remove the seat and pull the battery out.

Those voltage systems are pretty strong. Or at least strong enough to withstand that until the fuse snaps. I did the exact same thing, figured I would try the battery out of the XB, and like a dumbass, just got myself into a whole new world of confusion. Beer, repair/replace/tinker, whiskey is a good method.

ok, got home, checked the fuses, and the 30amp fuse for the battery was blown. replaced it, and she purrs like a kitten again... a big mean ass kitten that is! Thanks to all for the help.

Experience +1 [up] give it a few weeks and you'll be the perfect person to advise someone else on the same mistake.

It is funny, I asked a buddy of mine who has like 4 Buells and is fairly mechanically inclined... and just this past weekend one of his buddies did the exact same thing while he was staying with him. He said the new battery his friend got had the positive and negative switched up and he assumed just like I did. He just confirmed that I should check the fuses. What worries me is that 2 days later his bike wouldnt start again due to his regulator being fried... hopefully mine doesnt do the same.
