I have my basic riders course tomorrow and I just found out there sill be a 4-6 hour time frame where we will be sitting on our bikes basically at idle and I am Florida. So an air cooled bike + Florida=? It's and 03 xb9s

i can't believe they would make you do that. doesn't sound right to me. where did you hear it from? it wouldn't be good for any kind of bike:eek:

If the course is anything like the one I took, it won't be that bad. If we were sitting on the bikes, we were about to ride, all instructions was given off the bike without it started. The course around here use Buell Blasts and Suzuki 250 cruisers.

Basic riders course i thought they provided bikes for you but i could be wrong, atleast when i took they did but i took mine in nebraska, also we never just sat on the bikes in idle for a long period of time if it was going to be more then a few minutes they would have us shut the bike down. But enjoy your class

What would be the point with race exhaust you wont be able to hear anything anyone says? That cant be right. Why cant you sit on your bike with it off?

It was probably to keep our attention. Most of the people in our class had never been on a bike so common sense was at a minimum. One guy actually forgot to put the kick stand down before getting off the bike.

When they hear the "jet" fan kick in they'll have you shut that thing off.

When I took it, it was like Flaya said. Idle time was held to a minimum since instructions were given with bikes off and on the kickstand. If we were on it and idling, it was a minutes before we were of riding.

Have you ever been able to turn the "jet" fan off after it turned on with out waiting for it to cool off haha

yea after talking with them they finally refuse to let me use my buell for the class, i have to use some kenyuso 200cc fake crotch rocket thing

its.... weird... that theyd say you have to sit at idle for 4-6 hrs
i would consider taking a course from someone else

MSF regs limit the cc of a bike used for basic rider class to 500 cc max. It was less, but HD lobbied for 500 so the Blast could be used for riders edge classes.
Good luck with the class.

the classes here will not let you use your own bike. you HAVE to use theirs. no worries, everyone will be on their bikes.

I enjoyed using there bike as a posed to my own just because those little bikes we was using was such a hoot to play with and if you tear it up or drop it it is ok.

Do any of you guys have to take a course or riding test to get the license?
Here in alabama its a multiple choice test you can take it and bam your certified to be on 1203cc's of mean machine weavin through the asphault jungle

I originally got my motorcycle license in Texas and at the time if you took the class you did not have to take the riding portion of the test. Now in Texas it is mandatory I think to take the class before you can get your license.

In MD, if you pass the MSF basic rider written and ride test, you get a certificate you take to the MVA (DMV) and they give you your license in exchange.

Here in MO you have to go pay to get a permit. You then ride with it for atleast a month I think and then go do a riding test that is super easy.

The safety classes here only lower your insurance rates and you have to ride their Buell Blasts. No personal bikes allowed.

been riding for a while and went to get the license after 20 years not on a bike. my dad was an instructor in VA so i figured i would take the class to avoid the hassle of trailering the bike to the DMV. i would tell anyone to take it just for the experiece. wasn't hard and not sure what the big deal about the box was.
we don't run the bikes all the time 20-30 minutes tops then shut down for instruction, didn't even spend much time standing still.
