I want to put under glow lights on my bike and I noticed this plug that looks kinda like a trailer hitch adapter. Is this an after market plug for a light kit?

It's likely a battery tender plug...Mine looks exactly like that.

Which technically would be connected directly to your battery so I suppose you could connect to it, but whatever you connect to it would be powered at all times. I'd trace it to make sure where it's connected to.

It is a battery tender plug. I run my g.p.s off of it. All you need is a 2 prong trailer plug from an auto parts store and it plugs right in. I unplug mine when im not using it so that it doesn't drain out the battery.

It's called and SAE connector. You can plug different things into it, but... it's directly connected to your battery. Some of the cables here SAE connectors have switches, but unprotected like that isn't really the best way to go about it.

On the older bikes you might want to put in this relay to connect accessories. "Enlarge" gives you a schematic to do it right.
