Since acquiring my XB9S Lightning about 5 months ago, I've added Carbon Fiber from ASB for the front fender, the air cleaner cover (tank), the seat cowl and the front fly screen. I also did a MAJOR clean-up since the previous two owners obviously had no idea what soap and water was. One of them had removed the guts of the stock muffler (trying to pass it off as a Drummer - FAIL) which only made it sound obnoxious as Hell.I also replaced the OEM shifter and brake pedal with offerings from ASB. They have longer contact areas. I recently ordered an Aluminum Jardine Slip On and installed it (not too easy) and mine seems to run and sound MUCH better now. I haven't replaced the ECM and haven't seen any reason to do so. However, a lot of owners here seem dead set on replacing the ECM regardless.
I have no racing plans nor do I intend to in the future. So should I just leave things as they are and enjoy or seek to continue to improve?

One other thing, the front brake is not smooth. It seems, well, as if something is loose or something, kind of "grabby." Anyone else have this problem?

Clean looking ride!

Most people are going to say if u put on aftermarket exhaust and air filter u should probobly play with your ECM at least do a tps reset.

If you only did the exhaust or just the filter up grade no need for chip work.

However I had an 03 with a race pipe and k&n for nearly 15k without doing anywork.

You prob are going to get alot of popping during decel which jardines r famous for, some chip work will improve that.
 
I've had two buells and the front brake has felt troubling on both I feel that it's so large it's just going to give alot of feed back.

On my current bike it feels like something is loose bent or popping out but it still brakes like a champ and I can't see anything wrong with it.
 
It'll probably come down to personal preference. As Riderdie said You will get some popping from the Jardine. I have the same one and I love it too. (I love being able to set off my roommates car/bike alarms)

I would suggest just looking into getting the ECM cable and doing a little tuning. Or if you're not comfortable doing that, pick up and EBR ECM and let them know what you have and what kind of power you want and they'll do a custom tune for your bike.

As for the brakes... I'll have to agree with Riderdie again. Large rotor, more feedback. You'll get the feel of it in no time.
 
Thanks for the replies guys, I sure appreciate your help. I forgot to mention it also has a K&N Filter. Perhaps that is the reason it runs so much better now that the gutted stock muffler is off.

Also, thanks Riderdle for your reply on the front brake. It operates fine. I did bleed it the other day and a few air bubbles came out but it didn't cure the "loose" feeling. But like you, I can't find anything wrong and it stops the bike fine.

This bike is a hoot to ride and never fails to get attention.
 
For the shaking you might want to check these two to make sure they are tight. I had the same issue and after I tighten the steering stem nut it all went away. You will need to loosen the bolt and then tighten down the nut cap then retighten the bolt[up]

Thanks, I tried your suggestion. I have the ASB Cross Roads bars so I had to remove the 4 bolts holding them down and then did your solution. The steering stem nut moved about a half an inch or less but still moved! I tried a short test ride after reassembly but could only manage a snort distance, hardly enough to fully test it because it was starting to sprinkle a bit. It did seem MUCH better though.
