Well wile out on a ride Sat night my buddy motions me to pull over.......come to fine out my Drummer chin fairing bracket snapped off on both ends on the pully side of the motor. Scrached the hell out of my fresh paint job on my Drummer SS and melted the front center pretty bad.

So while in a working mood today I decided to install a factory muffler since Ive never heard my bike with one on and I was Pulling the SS to touch up the paint.
All I can say is WOW..........these factory mufflers are retardedly quiet !!! Im going to take her out for a ride tomorrow and see if there is any Diff in power and torque. Im hoping that it dosent impress me just so I know I havent wasted a ass load of money on the SS.

We shall see...................

Why would you have wasted money on the SS if the stock is retardedly quiet? I think your trying to talk your self into a stock pipe. Its ok if you want to use a stock pipe then use a stock pipe. The reality is if you tune your SS properly you can get more power with a race pipe setup, but if your not tuned properly for the race pipe then you will get a better performance from the stock pipe. But lets face it the stock pipe sounds like ****. Im not talking about revving your loud pipe at stop lights like harley riders but when your flying in third with your RPM's up high it sounds OH so sexy, or when you rip through the gears getting onto the HWY God its a sexy sound, i would not give up that sound for anything. I do remember test riding an 09 firebolt with a stock pipe and i could not tell when to shift because i could not hear the motor, thats ok for an automatic car, but not a sport bike, not in my opinion. Im not going to look at my rpm's to shift when i could shift by sound and keep my eyes on the road. BTW Didnt you ride it with the stock before you put the SS on?

You should probably re-read his post.

Butt dynos can be deceiving. Loudness can sometime be construed as power. But in your case, I think you will feel the difference. The SS is a great performing pipe. Plus it's pretty rare.

What i was saying was that to me it sounded like he was beating around the bush that he wanted to go back to a stock pipe, and if he noticed that it felt like it had more power he would stick with it.

My point was that the SS would produce more power if his bike was tuned correctly to it, then it would if it was tuned to the stock. I read what he said. You didn't read what i said.

I agree 100%, Even though i loved the sound of the D&D I switched back to the much quieter race pipe because its performance was 10x's better!! Missed my torque :(

I have no clue wha Im doing at this point......I havent had a chance to even ride with the stocker on the bike.

My reason for putting it on was I have never heard a XB12 with a stock muffler. My bike came equipped with a race can and a stock ECM. I had a big nasty flat spot in the 3000-4000rpm range that made my 12 seem like a dog. I had a chance to trade for the Drummer SS i currently have.
When My chin faring bracket broke it scrached the **** out of my SS and I was taking it off anyways to fix the paint.

The point of my post was that I didnt know they where This quiet. I have considered a diff pipe but havent had any good offers on my Drummer SS

I will throw this out there.......Make me some offers on the SS and I will go from there.

I'm running a Drummer on my XB12R and wouldn't go in any other direction.... I don't have the SS version though, but it's only about a 2hr ride to their facility for me, thought about upgrading to the SS.

What kind of price are you looking for on your SS, and maybe I can sell my regular Drummer on here?

Well I took it out for a short ride around the block, and wasn't impressed yet. I know the ECM hasn't had time for the 3000rpm 5mile learn in process, but I can honestly say so far it's not impressing me with any magical low end torque. With the SS I couldn't lift the front end and it's the same with the stock pipe...... Only much quieter. I'm still going to give it a shot and see if it changes any, but I ain't holding my breath.

A trade I might consider for my SS is a race pipe with a race ECM <----------- just thinking out loud.

Well I took off the stocker and put my Drummer SS back on. I emailed Kevin Drummer about the broken chin fairing bracket and he is warranting it. Just have to mail it to him and he will replace it [up]. The bike starts and rev's so much easier with the SS. With the stocker it seemed like it was trying to breath through a straw.....just seemed to struggle.

..... something must be wrong... I flick my wrist and my bike wants to launch up on one wheel... (I'm running the stock can)

I ordered a Special Ops can early September... still waiting for that to come in :(:(

I guess I should mention Im 6'2 and 250lbs
I have 20 pounds more on me and my SS with my Hawk or the stock can is eager to pull the front up. May have some other issue.

My 9 won't pull up basically all stock. I'm 6'4" 230 lb. I've never really tried, I'm sure I could get it up easily, but it's never come up on accident...

I noticed the opposite. To me, quieter feels faster. Louder exhaust gives the impression that the bike is trying real hard. Quiet exhaust feels like it's accelerating fast without even trying.

I want a deeper exhaust, but stock decibels. I hate my lawnmower sound, but all the aftermarkets are too loud.

I've gotten 1 accidental wheelie, but never have been able to when I purposely try. I'm thinking of looking into clutch plates this winter.

Other than my drummer SS I have nothing else done. I've never seen a need to tune because my plugs are a nice tanish color and I have almost no decel pop.

My 12r with stock ecm and exhaust pulls the front wheel any time i want so if your having trouble like others said something has to be wrong. Also my friends 9r pulls the front wheel easily.

6'2" 200 here
try harder lol

This wasn't a how to or I can do this thread. It was to simply state that I didnt see any gains from going back to a stocker. Just the fact alone that the stocker seemed to choke my bike at idle was enough of a sign that I wasn't going to like it. Not saying it ain't a good muffler...... It was designed the way it is for a reason. It's just not for me. As for me not being able to lift the front wheel.....maybe in doing something wrong. I don't know. I do know that a bike corners much better with 2 wheels on the ground and that's what matters to me...... If I wanted to ride around on 1 wheel I would have bought a uni-cycle.

plus 1 for that, lol.

I just love beating the horse.
