hey guys,

i just picked up an 05 xb9r, bone stock with extremely low miles.

i'm looking at getting a few things for it, and just want some opinions on it.

- i'm lookin at getting a steering stabilizer, as i heard it helps out at high speeds alot.
- i'm thinking doing a jardine exhaust, is that just a slip on or full system?
- painting t he frame and swing arm, anything special need to be done?
- i want to black out all the plastics, should i paint them or can i find black plastics online somewhere?
- is there any way to drop the pegs a little to gain some leg room?

ive been riding cruisers and dirtbikes my whole life, i had a yamaha raider before this. so it'll take me alittle while to get used to a sport bike, but i like it a lot.

Here a couple different ones from ASB

XB series Hyperpro Steering Damper

XB Series LSL Steering Damper

XB-R Firebolt GPR Steering Damper

XB-R Firebolt Steering Damper

The Jardine is a slip, doesnt include full headers like the micron

some guys have powdercoated them, or you might be able to use the Black Frame paint
if thats the color you are going for

You can try looking on Buellster Parts or try trading with someone on here. other wise you can buy new plastics but those would be pricey

Two options for drop pegs you can use the 1in drop pegs from the lighting or there is a couple different websites with drop pegs and i think they might have a 2in drop peg however i dont have the websites for these sorry

but if you like the cruiser style there is a set of cruiser pegs you can get Cruiser Pegs they are for the Ulysses but i have been told that they will fit all the xb frames

^^^^^^ yea what he said^^^^^. I thought I could help but he covered all bases corectly. Very nice supermanrider. I wish I had two more hands to give you four thumbs up!!

I am constantly dooin at least 110- 130mph and in my opinion you don't need a stabilizer, just a waste of money as far as I am concerned.:DJust ride it like you stole it!!

i constantly get head shake over 120, i have to tighten up everything in the head weekly. yea, it is simple to keep tightening the stuff up myself but a steering damper would save me some time each week.

Plus they cost like $105![down]
but if that's what you want...

I think the 1" will work too I would try them first

I have found that I need a damper, dropping the hammer on corner exits, especially rough ones tends to make the uneasy head shake happen. I would prefer to add a damper and keep the shake from evolving into a wobble.

it was never a real issue but as I become more familiar with the bike and started pushing it harder it started to happen. its never from just high speed though only from getting on the throttle hard as I stand the bike back up.

oh and stay away from the jardine, they tend to blow apart if you don't watch them.

they can be kept nice (I think buell chick's bike has one on it and thus far without issues but ask xtremelow) but the general consensus amongst Buellers is don't risk it.

here is the website for the 2" drop pegs
www.knightdesignllc.com

Thanks RichP99 for finding that for me thats one of the few websites that i didnt have bookmarked.

every time i see something cool i try and keep it for future use either for myself or someone else.

oh and stay away from the jardine, they tend to blow apart if you don't watch them

yeah the pop rivets on some of them have vibrated loose and cause the can to come apart, here is the thread POS Jardine RT-1 Break Apart at Rivets? and there is links two more threads inside this one about half way down the page

no to the jardine. had one blow apart the front rivets. the front droped down still held up by the back strap, caught a snag on the road and gave me a slightly sketchy hop in the air follow by an immediate wtf stop followed by cursing and thanking god i didnt learn to fly. just my experience. it sounded pretty good though. but other options for cheaper that are better and just as good sounding. lost of stuff on exhaust on the forum. or u can pm me if u just want some details. congrats on the new bike. so in this message the emotions went [down]:([mad]:)[up]

i'm lookin at the d&d, or a drummer for exhaust.

i was wondering, where do you guys buy your frame pucks/swing arm pucks? also, since the bike has like 200 miles on it and its five years old, should i get the tires checked?

ALSO, what else should i check?

You can get frame pucks at Americansportbike.com. Great people.

If it was stored indoors the majority, the tires should be fine.

Definitely change oil in Engine & Primary over to a Full Synthetic Motorcycle-specific 20W50 oil or something comparable.

Also would check everything else I could get to including both clutch lever adjustments and Primary chain adjustment.

All those are outlined well in the Service manuals you can download at the top of this page. Save one to your computer because they're awesome to have.

I'd go ahead and do the Breather-reroute as all it can do is help: Breather Reroute Mod

Welcome to the Buell Family and throw up some pics when you get a chance. Oh, and take that baby for a short ride, she's been neglected for way too long. ;)

Yeah, take it to the dealer to have the first major service done if you're not handy. If it has been sitting for 5 years with no service, you will need to change all the fluids (including the fork oil)

You can also get your frame pucks at the dealer and not have to pay shipping.

I too agree that you do not need a steering damper. I ride flat out on the weekends, and have never had head shake.

I agree with dumping all the fluids but personally I would wait on synthetic if your going to go that route. At only 200 miles on the bike its not even broken in yet.

Congrats on the new toy!

there is no harm in putting synthetic in right now just a waist of money because at this point you need to change your oil at short intervals regardless of the oil you use, the changes are to remove the bits of metal that will be floating around as everything scores/beds in.

40 bucks of synthetic every 500-1000 miles
or
20 or so bucks for conventional just as often

but it wont hurt anything but your wallet
