My 03 XB9R has a loud buzz/ringing type noise when I turn on the key and sometimes keeps this loud buzz/ringing for as long as I'm running the bike. It's quite loud and I don't think this is normal. It's definately electrical related, not mechanical.
It doesn't happen everytime I turn the key on. I've been living with it but it's getting annoying. I understand that some buzzing should happen when the key is first turned on, but this is pretty loud.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? I thought I'd ask the forum before I start pulling the bike apart looking for the noise.

Yes, that sounds like the fuel pump to me. When you turn the key, the fuel pump primes the fuel system. No big deal, this is normal. If your bike starts studdering all the time, then it's time for a new fuel pump.

Yep fuel pump would be my guess too mine is pretty loud. What you might try is turn the key to the off position along with the kill switch on the right switch housing. With the kill switch in the off position turn the key on you should get no fuel pump noise. Now switch the right housing switch to run and you should hear the fuel pump cycle. This should be the noise your talking about.

Good call is right. Yup, you are straight on mcdonald! I did as you suggested and it worked exactly like you said. It's the Fuel Pump.

Now, sometimes this noise stays on as long as my bike is running. Does this mean my fuel pump is going out?
