I have gotten the run around from Insurance comanys just like you have DUALSPORTDAD, find a local Lawyer that will write a few letters for you and perhaps make a few calls, Screw that insurance company. They cannot do that.
You can go the other route and demand they compensate for total repair. Their policy for totalling for any frame damage is common and the norm, but their policy is just that THEIRS. tell them you dont agree. the right attorney can make it happen for you. lots of shysters out there, so find one that is reasonable and work with you. try and find a biker friendly attorney. I used Aid To Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M).
Even then, I had grief with a local adjuster. We got it sorted out, but that adjuster was a dick. Dont accept BS because some big company says so.
Same with the legal system, I fought with the local DA's office and won, the girl who ran me over ended up having to do 20 days in jail. they were going to let her off with community service. YOU CAN FIGHT AND WIN.

Important thing is you walked away with few injuries, sucks that it was your Buell though. And no, putting up a stink is completely worth it. You'll have to deal with a lot of garbage from your insurance trying to pay you as little as they can, but YOU pay for all of that and you deserve to be done right by.

Maybe you could look into a Ducati Monster, or a Hypermotard to fill your Buell void, but nothing will truly come close. Good luck out there! Keep us all posted.

With my truck...
They valued it at $2500 (which was NADA/KBB/Going rate private party)
Deductible was $500
They claimed buy back was $500. This was a # I had to request, not a part of the regular info given. If I hadn't asked, they would've just paid the $2000 and they kept the truck.

They took the trucks value, minus the deductible and the buy back price... I kept the truck and got a check of $1500.

This really isn't uncommon... cause lots of people don't wish for a FULL fix... but the insurance is required to pay for that or replacement, whichever is cheapest. It isn't fraud unless you make a claim against things they paid to fix, which you didn't.

Bought my Buell back for $600. This was about 4-5 years ago and it was a beauty. I say buy it back. Even if you don't repair it, someone on here might be glad to take it off your hands. Insurance will let it sit in a junkyard :( They don't want to do the leg work to find someone who wants it.

No, it will go to an insurance auction where dealers bid on them, why let that happen? Buy it back and fix it yourself, or sell it to someone who will love it and take care of it. If you care about Buells, do the right thing, or if not go buy that Gixxer or Ninja and let someone who appreciates the buell give it a good home

Hope it goes well, it varys by region and state how the insurance companies behave. But in general its not too bad to do. Good for you to buy it back. best of luck :)

Yes they just sell them at insurance auto auctions. I buy lots of bikes from there. 80% of the bikes there still have drive out tags on them also. Dont take no for an answer from the dickhead insurance people.

If you can don't mind, how did the accident happen?

Glad that your ok and your wife is super cool BTW.

I had pulled over to help another rider off the road who had just been hit by a bus (the bus kept going). I made sure he was alright and took off. For whatever reason, my kickstand went back down and prevented me from moving left out of the way of a car in front of me. Hit the car and flew off the bike.

Unbelievable Update:

Update

Things could not have gone any better for me. My adjusters at Geico were horrible. No communication and wouldn't return any of my calls/e-mails. I had to go to their supervisor and then his manager before I finally got contacted again. As I had said before, Geico estimated $2200 or so to fix the bike. I requested a supplemental inspection from the Harley Dealer which came out to $4295 (I thought it was $6495 but that was the total of both inspections). Without my authorization Geico issued a check for $6495 to Harley! I of course decided to take the bike home without being repaired and had to jump through some hoops but ended up getting Harley to issue a check for the total minus a $200 inspection fee. They were totally awesome and really helped me out.

Somebody at Geico was clearly either off their game or felt like doing a good deed for once because I am one happy camper. In 5 minutes on this forum I found all the parts I need to get my bike back on the road (FOR ONLY $260) with nothing more than a few very minor scuffs left on the bike and I have over $6,000 left. I'd say that was worth it.
