So lets suppose I handed my keys for my bike to my girlfriend one day last week. And then maybe last night I ask for them back and she says "I don't have them"... so, I can't find my keys all the sudden.

now here's the deal with my bike. My ignition key is different than my seat key, because I have an R frontend swap.

Right now all I've got is one of my old seat keys (which works on the seat, not the ignition) my forks aren't locked so I can move my bike around and dismantle it if I need to.

So can I get a key made for my ignition? or do I have to get a new ignition w/ keys?

FYI, I didn't steal a bike, I have the title.

Cant get another key from the dealer without proof of ownership of the matching VIN #. Since yours is a swap id contact HD and get the contact info to the company the makes the keys and see if you can send yours in and make a copy.

You should be able to get a key cut for your bike. Problem is your ignition key isnt the same as your original key (at least thats what i got from your description). So i am almost positive you would have to get the VIN from the original bike the R front end came off of to get a key cut. At least thats how it works with cars.

This is what i would do..
First remove the ignition. Then remove the two little screws on the back of the ignition. Then plug the end back in to your bike.
Then you can start it and ride it if you want.
Then take your spare key to your trunk and gas cap down to a locksmith and pay about $35-$45 for them to rekey the ignition to your spare key, to have a matching set. Then call it a day.

You can go to the dealer and order a buell key set for about $21 but at first they will ask you a bunch of questions, then try to order the keys for your vin#
you will need to show prof of ownership with your vin#
Then request a blank set of keys if your key set does not match your vin#

Lesson learned here. Don't give your keys you an oh so loving girlfriend! Good luck with that man. Make her pay for the keys.

bought an ignition without keys, took it to a local locksmith, an hour and 40 bucks later, two new keys cut, it would have cost 60 -90 bucks to have the ignition matched to the original set of keys of my Lightning, I to did the S to R front end conversion

Yeah, my main concern was that the ignition is a different vin. I'm not in a rush to ride.. There's still like an inch of snow on the road here, I'm sure my keys will turn up. If they don't, I'll probably go the locksmith route, it seems like the path of least resistance.

Make her pay for the keys

LMAO that wouldn't work in my situation, my GF is basically a wife at this point. She takes care of my kids, my house, and myself every day with no complaints. So what if she lost my keys (if it was even her in the first place, due to some of my 'hobbies' I often forget things. :D )

Good suggestions guys, thanks. And I do have to give a special thanks to squidbuellie.. +1rep [up]

No spare? Dude...

Haha I know, I know. Last night I was thinking about it... I only have one key for all three of my cars and my bike (well none right at the moment) lol I do have two seat keys though.

It's just the way it has worked out! I have a focus I bought 12 years ago... I only got 1 key with it, still have it! Then again no one but me has ever driven it, it's basically a road legal rally car at this point

oh yeah! I found my keys. I didn't even have to beat my girlfriend. that doesn't mean I didn't beat her, I said I didn't have too (j/k i didn't really beat my woman)
