Hey guys, I was going to remove the factory plate holder on the bike this weekend thinking it wouldnt require removing a whole lot. well i think i was wrong. I searched threw a ton of threads dont know if i was over looking it or not. Is there a step by step guide on here, or could someone point me in the rite direction?

Thanks.

I cut mine off right at the blinkers with a dremmel then shaved down. You need to take off blinkers I think to actually take off plateholder. Gotta take rear plastic off to get to rear blinkers. I did mine by cutting like I said and I think it turned out ok. Which mount did you end up going with?

mount wise im just going to fab something up. i was looking at the shop manuel and it showes that youve got to completly take the rear part of the bike apart. Is that rite? so i may just go your route. By the way nice bike SeattleBuellMan.

buellman, seriously it is not that bad, take off the seat, take the rear plastic off (i think like 5 screws) and then unplug and pull your turn signals. I would be shocked if it took you 1/2 hour to get the tag bracket off. it's really not that bad at all. I looked at mine and thought omg, this is gonna be a bitch, but it wasn't bad at all. :D

thanks bolt, im still giving it a shot, i just looked at that and was like ummm...but thanks again guys.

hey bolt, did you have to remove the rear lock when you did yours, i took a shot at it again before work today but the plastics didnt want to budge even with those screws out.

Its not hard at all to remove, just do what bolt08 said. no need to take off the lock, just leave it attached to the plastic. the plastics fit snug over the tail sub-frame, but if you just kinda slide it back it should pull off with out much trouble (assuming you have all of the screws undone). Then yeah, you just unplug the signal wires, and feed them out the mount.
As far as re mounting, there isn't even a need to fabricate anything if you don't want. you can just drill two small holes right in the underside of the tail piece and flush mount it. Actually, this is how every firebolt owner i know did theirs. Its easy, and if you aren't sloppy and take the time to map out good even hole locations, it's much cleaner than any bracket.
Also, by not cutting your bracket you can always put it back on if you want to have the old look back, sell, or get harassed by the fuzz.

This is what it looks like from the side. Super clean.

buellman, not to be a smartass, but you did get all the screws; the one under the passenger seat and these too:

and like driftingswiftly sanid, you will have to slide it back a little and then lift up.

Oh, and don't pay any attention to mine yet, it's not near done yet... I'll post some pics when I'm finished, I just wanted to get it out of the way for now. :D
