ok guys. really need to get some sort of security system for the xb. I need yalls suggestions. I mean there is lo jack but it pretty expensive and doesnt really prevent from stealing. I know there are alarm systems but not sure what any good ones are. What do yall think is best?

18" of chain and a master lock. Just thread it through your back tire, disk and/or swing arm. When not in use but it in your trunk.

I was very happy with my Cyclone 866F.
I have the same one and i am happy with it as well.

I use this

Motorcycle security is about layers though. The more they better. But unless it's bolted/chained to the ground no alarm will stop 4 guys from lifting it on to a trailer.

Speaking of chaining it up-

Zero I've been looking at a disk lock just like that a cycle gear. Has the little alarm.in it. But like you said if it isn't bolted to you ground all these things are are a detourant. The chains are the least expensive. Alarms are a pain ib the ass. I just got done ripping mine out. IMO get the disk lock with tilt sensor.

Lock the forks, xena disk lock w/ alarm built in, a length of chain wrapped around the rear wheel twice with the heavieat padlock I could find locking it to an eyebolt sunk into the curb. (My only vehicle when wife is in school. And bad area for bike theft)

Having a lightpost next to my parking spot helps. And keep your eyes open for suspicious behavior. That cargo van thats suddenly parked next ro your bike at 2am, take a pic of the license plate. Never know when it might help.

And remember, if they have any sort of tool on them it can be considered a deadly weapon and you can defend yourself and your property in kind. It's easier to kill someone and claim self defense when they're 6ft under, then claim self defense when they have 2 broken legs and are in the courtroom.

well im still trying to figure out what i want. are the alarm systems really tht big of a pain/inconvience? and the cyclone looks nice, anyone have the scorpio? just looking for best possible thing

I got a Scorpio 900 with the rfid. It's ok, but a tad inconsistent. The perimeter module is tweak-able, but it will either start b*tching when someones standing 6 feet away... or start b*tching when someone's already planting their @$$ in your seat depending on the setting. The shock/tilt works OK. The Rfid is OK too, but you have to keep the fob charged or it will only turn off and on via Rfid (approaching the bike, it will recognized the tag and disarm/auto arm when you insert the key and turn).

Installation was not bad but I have to say that whoever designed the alarm didn't have a Buell xb in mind when they did it. (for instance, you are advised to install in it the middle of the bike but far away from any metal... the rfid antenna should be have 6-7 inches of straight vertical mounted wire to be really effective). The design is easy if you're on a full fairing bike of the jap variety.

Is it better than nothing? Sure? is it better than one of the fake alarm buttons? Sure? better than the cyclone which cost about 1/3 the price at the time I bought it? That's debatable. I still use a disc lock even though I have the alarm and still keep it in a locked garage when I could leave it on the street armed with the alarm. Why? because as someone said above you can't keep someone from lifting it into a truck with enough help... and.. after someone triggers your alarm 5 times in a row.. it shuts itself off to keep from draining your battery... thus negating the money you spent on an alarm.

i here ya undisputed. its really just for peace of mind. and as a deterent. if someone really wants to yes they will still take it. but a lot of would be thiefs wouldnt get outta there. besides its never far from me and never alone. so id here it and go out with my new walther in my hand. i just figuring out what is best method. and im really having trouble on figurin if scorpio or cyclone better alarms. or if they are even worth buying. to go with disc alarm, or to just do a gps tracker for if it gets stolen but not to prevent

There's a scorpio that does the tracking thing. Its a cool option that came out after I bought mine. If you don't mind paying the subscription every month. One thing that did impress me about the scorpio is that fully charged it alerted me to someone walking near it, across 7 lanes of traffic, through a window and 3 walls, 1 flight up. (my office is in the center of a building on a concourse).
I'm not really worried where I park it at work. It's in plain sight, on a busy concourse and most of the public safety officers stationed in the lobbies, have bikes and keep an eye on it for me. The gun thing is difficult for me to pull off legally in nyc, but an icon titanium knuckle guard to the chops is an option.

does anyone have the scorpio with r link or whatever that has the gps as well as alarm. not many reviews out there. and not sure if the alarm system part has all the same capabilities. opinions?

Best security

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks that a firearm is an appropriate mode of security for a motorcycle should not own a gun. Escalating a situation by drawing a weapon over a piece of property (that can be replaced) is unwise, and is a great way to get shot.

I conceal carried for a long time, and still sleep with an 870 next to my bed, but it is only to protect me and my loved ones. I can replace goods, I cannot replace people.
