Made in the USA

USA cars are extremely good today. They had bad rep for a while but are great again.
They're definitely better, but whenever I rent a car, it's usually American & I still find the fit & finish disappointing, and the drivelines harsher.

The ironic thing is that Mercedes and BMW now manufacture more vehicles in the US than either Lincoln or Cadillac!

I try to buy american where it makes sense. I buy redwing boots mainly because the redwing plant is an hour from my house. I have never seen a made in China label on them as someone stated earlier. I was an engineer in the automotive industry a few years ago, yes I am ageek as well. My point on autos was simple I designed processing and tester equipment for different vehicle components. We had to always quote out piece parts based on per piece parts made in the USA and also in mexico. Here is the rub on that if they were made in mexico and failed they were brought back in the us to be made in a union shop at about 10 X the cost. My point being that a part that costs a dollar to be made in mexico costs ten dollars to be made in the us. I am not making an argument for outsourcing but to most companies until there is an issue mexico is much more appealing especially when dealing with thousands of dollar parts. Btw also not a rip on unions either. Just .y observation of the global world economy we now live in.

Link to article: Only 10 vehicles are considered "American Made"

"Cars.com's American-Made Index rates vehicles built and bought in the U.S. Factors include the percentage of parts considered domestic under federal regulations, whether the car is assembled in the U.S. and U.S. sales. We disqualify models with a domestic-parts content rating below 75 percent, models built exclusively outside the U.S. or models soon to be discontinued without a U.S.-built successor."

Rank Make/Model U.S. Assembly Location Last Rank
1 Ford F-150 Dearborn, Mich.;Claycomo, Mo. 1
2 Toyota Camry Georgetown, Ky.;Lafayette, Ind. 2
3 Honda Odyssey Lincoln, Ala. 4
4 Toyota Sienna Princeton, Ind. 5
5 Toyota Tundra San Antonio, Texas 7
6 Toyota Avalon Georgetown, Ky. 10
7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Bowling Green, Ky. —
8 Honda Ridgeline Lincoln, Ala. —
9 Honda Crosstour East Liberty, Ohio —
10 Dodge SRT Viper Detroit —

That's 4 Toyotas and 3 Hondas!

That list isn't fully accurate. I know that kia has an assembly plant in georgia for I believe the sorrento. And they are listing very specific model of corvette. Every corvette is manufactured in bowling green, KY. So is(was?....not sure if it's still in production) that cadillace coupe....don't recall the name.

There are other's too...
