They're all over on the Beemer forums; I come here to get away from them
well said Go! those beemer guys pride themselves in mumbo jumbo and techno jibberish chatter.
Thanks Lunatic. You made the #1 spot on my "Most Awesome Post of the Day" list
my pleasure Tork and thanks for the kind words.
want to try the amisol
i believe that's only available thru your local Avon saleslady.

for best results use
50% Mobil-1 Twin 20w50
45% Castrol Syntec 15w40
5% Penzoil 5w30 for added viscosity

that's just my fact based opinion

and 1 teaspoon of Old Spice to enhance that manly aroma.

Fresh Scent or Summer Breeze? Need an answer ASAP, getting the bike ready for the trip to the dragon! I want people to think "damn he smells good" when I pass them.

Old Spice to enhance that manly aroma.
Or for those who want a 'daintier' scent:

Hey! I'm a Beemer guy; is that an insult!? ;)
The ironic thing is that the specs on my BMW G650x still call for good old-fashioned dino oil. It's specifically stated not to use synthetic, period!

Indeed, I don't believe I've ever even come across a valve clearance being out of spec...

also may be attributed to the self adjusting hydraulic lifters. lol

they'll not only think that sean but they'll also be dazzled by your new steering head bearings.

Hope so :)

I bought timkin bearings from autozone. Standard 1" trailer wheel bearings. Pur pony helped me out with that. I put a caliper on them and they are the correct size. Just don't have new seals but I can reuse old ones. I still am worried about why they failed so fast... Will be changing them tomorrow morning. They were $26.

Yea, of course I'm not referring to my XB when I'm speaking of inspecting valve clearances. LOL. I'm speaking of other bikes I've owned.

I once racked up ~90,000km (~60,000 mi) on a Honda RC31 (including track days); the valves never required adjustment even once! It was frustrating because it was quite an ordeal to get in at the valves to check them, only to discover they needed nothing...

I've read hundreds of threads like this on dozens of motorcycle sites and there's one thing I've NEVER seen: An actual, documented case of oil brand causing an engine failure or one engine running significantly longer by using "brand X" vs. "brand Y". Never......not once.

Buy a known brand (the unbranded stuff that's been sitting on the shelf at the gas station since 1983 is probably not a good idea) in the proper weight and change it regularly. Other than that, don't sweat it.

Try to put some other than Ford's FE oil on Ford Mondeo st220, or for example to some other duratec engine and you will see what wrong oil is doing to it!

Wrong viscosity makes different oil pressures on oil lines. If wrong viscosity oil is being used, there is a risk that the oil isn't going to make it self to the all journal bearing's for an example.

Different oils also have different additives, and some clutches need those additives to work correctly. At previous week my friend called me to look at hes bike. He told me on the phone that hes clutch is not working well. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, but then my friend told me that they were adding oil in it on previous day because of the low oil level.... That added oil was some other than recommend MOTOREX's(if i remember right it was VALVOLINE's), my friend had looked just for the viscosity and bought the cheapest **** he could find... Ended up burning her clutch = +100$ for the new clutch plates and springs, and about the same +100$ for the proper MOTOREX oil...

Soooo... would think more than twice when considering buying cheap oils..

son of a bitch!!! this thread has regained traction. i am thrilled and delighted beyond all measure.

but in reality, oil has little to nothing to do with the valve clearance and wear. and everything to do with combustion temps, inlet air purity and valve/seat composition. ;)

but i know...i was messin with ya!!! lol

We havent had a good beer thread in a while....
OK, I'm up for it! Three summers ago, lime beer was all the rage, then it was iced-tea beer, then watermelon. What ******* thing that doesn't belong in beer will it be in the summer of 2014!?
