Bike runs fine then just dies, new relocated ECM ,new bank angle , fuel vent hose clear and seems tank vent ok took it off sprayed it with wd40 float ball rattles around ,no codes , all electronics work ,pull over wait awhile cycle ignition switch then it starts , I don't touch anything ,replaced ECM ,bank sensor, but still stalled , problem went away for 400 miles but came back again today seem to happen most often day of gas fill up

What does your fuel pump sound like when it primes?
If this is happening after fuel fill ups I would imagine something is a miss with your fuel pump.

Start researching fuel pump rebuild/repair threads.

How many miles on your bike and how long have you owned it?

Fuel pump sounds normal , 41,000 miles gremlin left for 2 weeks 400+ miles but has returned haven't found any frayed harness yet at bars wiggle test of harness doesn't kill bike while running in garage , bike will just run fine then seem to loose ignition speedo works cel on but no codes off e spy want to avoid shop at all possible don't want to pay to have someone on goose chase as I am now

work your problem logically and you'll find the gremlin. to do that think of what's going on here in these terms: a bike running down the road normally that suddenly and without explanation loses ENGINE OUTPUT POWER is almost always a component related to engine operation failing....or a main computer failing. a bike running down the road normally that suddenly and without explanation loses all electrical power.....which from your description seems to be your situation.....is always caused by either the components that supply that electrical power throughout the bike, the battery, or the battery cables and connections. your clue here is complete shut-down in conjunction with simultaneous dead gauge cluster. you failed to mention year of bike but if it were in my shop with this malady i would perform the following: closely inspect both battery cables AT BOTH ENDS of same....closely inspect ignition switch assembly for signs of wear specifically in the key tumbler area...and replace the ignition key relay.

Speedo works and oil pressure and cel come on ,neutral light works ,engine shuts off but all other electrical seems operational

Had extra relay, so far so good after short 20min ride will try farther soon ,

Back to square one ran fine for 120 miles then quit ,speedo works tach don't when it stops

Died on a 50 mile ride right between 20-30 miles has done it most frequently at about those miles ,on return trip at dusk it ran great all the way home espy it no codes all test go to 100% except fan stops at 60% of test replaced original fan 4 yrs ago has bout 25000 on this one fan doesn't seem to run until I stop and turn off then it run hi then low speed as should

Did you inspect and clean your cable ends and all grounds like John had told you? If yes, then I would be looking at your ignition switch next.

Note to self when checking grounds actually take them apart , had to extract one to remove stripped, clean and lube ,eyelet of steering head ground fell off after removing screw two wire in eye pretty corroded cleaned and recrimped bike running good last 150 miles ,checked harness to fairing no visible frayed wires so rewrapped hope the demon has been exorcised

Good job. Thanks the the guys on here that always offer help. You guys are appriciated, 2 that sand out lunatic, chicken, I know theres more of you guys also, sorry if your name was not included

thank you sir and appreciate the acknowledgement. link below should be one of those "sticky" things on this site. it has exorcised a hell of alot of electrical gremlins thru the years...same as in this case.

That's what this place is all about. Appreciate the mention.
I learn something new just about every day!
Reading some of these posts also helps clean the cobwebs!
Good for you and all those others that use this resource to avoid being taken advantage of by THAT MECHANIC!

Glenn r thanks you all !!! All ground shiny and lubed ran seperate ground to coil been running great since Sunday 200 + miles runs a lot smoother with k/n , hawk programmed ECM from IDS thank again and I'll keep fingers crossed a month of aggravation but probably saved $400 + by doing it myself

Back to square one , 2006 Ulysses died but couldn't restart today ,as before just dies gas full pump runs ,engine cranks, new ecm , bank sensor, removed all grounds, ran seperate coil ground , battery new in 2015 cleaned ignition switch bike restarted once after several attempt then died 2 miles down road for good killed battrry😡

Had something like this once one of the cable bundles rubbed through and would ground out a wire intermittently. It was under warranty then and it took the shop almost 2 months to figure it out. I would check all the wiring out very closely.

1) Have you pulled your fuel pump to insure IT does not have a wire that is grounding out inside the frame?
2) Have you tested your charging system?
If you're sure all the exterior grounds and wiring are in good order I would start looking into the two systems mention above.
But I'm no expert. I'm merely suggesting you leave no rock unturned.

Also, you mention your CEL lights up. Have you run a diagnostic with either ECMspy or ecmdriod to know why they CEL is lighting up? That would have been step number one, for me, if these running issues were happening to me.

Battery new charging fine? Haven't touched fuel pump yet but always runs when trying to restart , guess I'll strip off cover of harness at 3ple clamp further than choke point and beyond , ecm spy pulls no codes ever , hook it up after every time it dies all diagnostic test pass on spy something is shorting out electrically just have to find it
