a buddy i work with rides an 09 ninja 250 bone stock. i have a 2001 blast with a jet kit, k&n cone filter, and a vance and hines pipe. how do you guys think a little race would turn out? nothing really serious just messing around.

I think you need to set this thing up and get someone to video tap it. Post the out come Vid here!:D

Well you got 250 more cc's so my bet is on you, even before the Vance & Hines. That exhaust really opens that single. I do love how the little Ninja handles the twisties where I live. A guy I know has an 09 and he flogs it like a bmx bike. Fun to watch for sure. We don't have a Blast in our group for comparison but it would be nice to see a side to side.

Depends what kinda racing we're talking about. My bike has 385cc more than 600cc sportbikes and they can still outrun me depending on the kind of race.

Hands down Blast is the winner! Do you know why? Because I said so! That's why!:D

The Ninja doesn't have much of a top end, just around 95-105. They take a while to get there too. Whenever our friend rides with us on the freeway we have to send someone back to make sure he's still with us. If we don't leave him in the dust he can cruise around 80 no real issues.

My bet is on the Blast aswell... I think the blast puts out around 34 horses 30 ft-lb and the ninja about 26.1 and 18 ft-lbs...The blast may be heavier, but that single cylinder puts out more torque that the 2 cyl ninja.

Dragtimes has a Blast running 13.7@95, and an old 250 doing 16.7@76. Even if the new 250s got twice as strong, even a 500r ran 13.4@97, so I think you've got him

Actually, stock 1/4 mile times are:
2008+ Ninja 250R = 15.58 s @ 81.98 mph
Buell Blast = 15.75 s @ 85 mph

With the mods, I would bet you could take him. I also think rider skill could decide the winner. If you had a tach, or are really good at shifting at redline by ear, that would be another advantage. I had a 2001 Blast in 2001, and I would constantly ride it WOT through the gears, but I would always seem to hit the rev limiter right before I shifted.

that looks odd as the ninja 250 did a faster run at a slower speed? looks as though the ninja rider was just better at shifting or takeoff...

yea im not too good with the redline shifting. i have not hit the rev limiter yet cuz it sounds like its going to explode before that.

I don't understand how the blast can come out faster with a slower time?...

I think it's pretty common in drag racing. My guess would be because of gearing the quicker bike may get up to speed faster but stops or slows accelerating before passing the line.

Or in other words the buell was reelin him in (traveling faster) but couldn't catch him before the line.
