Went out on my very first ride. It was an amazing time a little chilly but overall very amazing even in the dark. A few questions for those that have been riding for awhile or not, I have an 06 XB9R, and I just wonder what gear most of you guys ride around in at city speed 35-45 mph?

I don't recall what gear I'm in at that speed, but I usually cruise about 3500 RPMs. It smoothes out then and you get pretty good power.

I'm like Bords, I keep it a little above 3K Rpms no matter what speed because it seems to smooth out. You can always kick down a gear and hold tight if you need to. ;)

As far as what gear, I'm guessing just over 3K Rpms @ 35-45mph..... puts you at 3rd MAYBE 4th gear? I'm not for sure, but in the end, I say try it in different gears and run at whatever your comfortable with.

"Keep her above 3k and she'll run forever."
That's what they told me the day i bought her.
Some 50k miles later, I'm still practicing that mantra.

That should be 3rd gear.

Robtk! a.k.a. "Special K"

A little over 3K on my 03' XB9R is right at 40mph in 3rd, 3K in 4th and im cruising about 50mph.

I believe i may have just invented my own class of IDIOT.... I was about to recommend anything leather, HA HA....

I do a lot of city riding, and it's usually about 3rd. On a long haul, low traffic, between lights i might need fourth, But whats the point if its only for a second. Just wind her up a bit more.

ever since I put my Jardine muffler on, I find myself fishing for the right gear when traveling 45 to 50 mph... its kind of annoying because I dont know if I should keep the rpms at 4,000 or hover right below 3,000 which is what happens when im in 4th gear

I vote 4th gear, just below 3,000 rpms. That's the rpm's I try to stay around when cruising.

between 3000 & 3500 is good cruising and best area to get a good reaction on throttle twist. ;)

I think that's actually where I try to hold RPM's also, about 3200 now that I think about it. Freakin' weathers kept me off my bike for way too long. I can't even remember what the wind sounds like in my helmet.

I take it you've got you're computer back up and running. Good to see.

Thanks everyone for their input. I think i may have fouled a plug when i received my bike from the shippers. Not that i was trying to do any major speedtests but it seems that my bike has trouble getting up past 90mph.

And then i rode my bike last sunday bad idea. It decided to snow and by the time I got into my city there was around an inch. I layed the bike down fortunately I'm fine and even better yet the bike is fine. A few scratches on the rear brake pedal and the right rear swingarm.
