Just needing some basic to perform my first oil change. Is there a manual on here with explicit step by step directions on how to change the oil on a XB12R? (I'm sure there is).

1. How many and what kind of oil do I need?
2. What kind of oil filter do I need?
3. When I change the oil should I change any other fluid or filter?

Thanks

3) - Nope you should be good.

Just so you are clear on what Steven said.

The Primary has its own drain plug and needs to be filled with the (1) quart through the bottom inspection cover on the side of the Primary. Bottomn one so you can see how high the fluid is (1) quart is all you need but the fluid level should be just below the bottom inspection cover opening.

You dont have to change the Primary fluid on each Oil change but most due since you are already down and all it takes is popping off the extra plug and opening the inspection cover.

Great info guys always can count on you. Just doing some winter maintenence since it just snowed this weekend in MD.

Now any idea how to do it?

One more thing Ram, there's several oil threads floating around with opinions, but most (including myself) use the same 20W50 oil of your choice, in both places with no problems.

You can register at Buell.com and download a copy of the owners manual.
It will give you the recomended intervals and also the procedures for changing your fluids.

One thing I learned the hard way was to use foil over the muffler to keep it from getting drenched with oil. n Pull the plug (which is directly over the muffler) and let it rip (drip) into the pan.[up]

Thanks 50dro I'll make sure to do that or put a baby seal in the way to catch the oil. Better than on my muffler.

I went to auto zone and found a funnel that has a long opening and is more of an oval shape that will sit on the muffler and let the oil drain straight thru it to the pan. wors great, no mess.

Something I learned the hard way is DONT get the K and N oil filter. For some reason those dumb asses put a bolt on the bottom of the filter which makes it a bitch to get in there. You couldnt even use the bolt if you wanted to because the chin fairing is in the way. [mad]

Damn Ram (I rhymed! :) )

What are you... like 8 foot two? I could tell from the sound of your "Barry White" voice on the vids you posted on another thread that you had to be tall... but Dayum... !

Saweet bike ya got there.. I'm jealous of the black/amber combo... (Mine is red/amber)... I'd offer ya something useful for this thread but it looks like the others have pretty well got ya hooked up..

You'll need a T27 socket or "screwdriver" to remove the belly pan, Locktite for the bellypan screws when you reinstall it, and thread sealer for the drain plugs.
