So, at this point I have put some money into my 1125R, and I am just starting to get into going to track days. I dont want to take the chance of jacking my Buell up now that they are out of production, so I am thinking about getting a used track bike. I just wanted to know if anyone has ridden an '05 CBR600 and if so what are main differences between that and the 1125R other than the obvious ergonomics? I have never ridden a jap bike, always American and European. I found a guy willing to get rid of his fully prepped CBR track bike for $2500, and may pick it up this weekend.

for that price it would be hard to pass up! I main differeence will be the power delivery, my old Ninja was blazing once she was around 8,000-11,000 rpms. but had little to now torque compared to my buell, but hey for 2,500 bucks buy it take it to the track and if you dump the Honda you will still have the Buell! :D

ours is hardly a track... it is a 7 turn track with the track record of 52 seconds... I still have quite a ways to catch up, but Im a beginner still.

Here is what it would look like

Dude, do it. CBR600 is a good bike. Low on torque, but just keep the RPM up and you'll be fine.

at $2500 I'm suprised there's even a question if it's worth it or not.

sounds like a steal, i'd jump on it if there was one like that around me.

is it a salvaged bike? have you checked the frame for tweaks? that's all i'd be concerned about if it's a sorted race bike.

havent even seen it yet. havent had the time. The guy is supposed to show it to me this weekend, but he says now it may already be sold. not sure if he is digging for more money, or if he really has another buyer. I told him I would consider paying more than what he was asking if he at least held the bike til I could see it.

A used XB is close as you can get to your 1125's chassis. So, track skills will readily translate to street skills.
You could even upgrade the 1125 chassis to XB standards :)
Look at this: '09 XB9R for sale (notmybike)

Ever ride a REAL race bike? I have a Honda liquid MT125R production roadracer for sale in anyone is interested. Wayne

how much do you want for the MT124R? that could be an amazingly fun antique to race at track days and such, plus I'm sure it's cheap to maintain and I know a company that probably does piston, valve, crank, and cylinder support

Looking for $3000 CDN. Ya it's cheap as hell to run, we used to get a season on one piston and two sets of rings. Tires? Usually a set a season. Never ever had to do a crank. Wayne

so the guy apparently decided to buy all the parts to make his bike street legal again and upped the price to 5K. I said screw it. Ran into a friend of my dad's yesterday who owns a little bike shop here in town and he picked a 2007 R1 at an auction for $4k. it was a repo, and has minor damage to the fairing plastics, but nothing wrong with the frame. I am picking that up on Friday. Sorry it isnt a Buell...just cant bring myself to take the Buell out on the track. especially since they arent made anymore.

At least you got yourself a good track bike. Hey, I'd love to have a Buell for the track but it's not like you can find them under a rock like you can with those Asian metrics. Enjoy it, let us know how your track days go.
