Need help ordering parts for fork rebuild

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

Got it all apart. The lower triple tree took some hammering with a rubber mallet but finally came out. Now to get the forks rebuilt this week sometime and take the parts in to get powder coated. Couldn't get the rotor off the front wheel either my torx bit broke:

soak ur bolts with deep creep for couple hours then try impact bit with small impact even a hand held will work wonders, they have thread locker on them be sure use it when u put them back togethr, i used blue and have had no issues, they also corrode bad just be patient a broken bolt is bad news

Thanks for the tip! Got it off with a new set of craftsman torx bits without a problem (the other set was cheapo). Took a orbital sander to the rotor to clean it up, looks like new now (I know many are against this...but I'm going to see if it works). Worst case scenario is I need to replace it like I needed to anyway. Now the fork ordeal to deal with now!

Amazing what a good set of tools will do! Cheap tools just arn't the same. I don't care what anyone says!

Indeed! I most always buy good tools (craftsman, kobalt, snap on, etc...) but sometimes I need something asap and grab it from a local place like autozone. That stuff is always cheap.

Look what I got today:

Both brand new fork legs in perfect condition with all the shown seals, dust covers, retaining clips, etc.... all for $260.00 shipped, not too bad...

:) thanks!

(that's you Tom, right? .....sorry, can't remember for sure the screen name...lol)

I'll be riding soon :)

Why exactly do you need one? I have my old ones, they aren't in all that bad of shape. Depending on what you're looking for I could send you one. They aren't show pieces though.

Picked up my forks today. They look great, all rebuilt (new oil seals, new dust covers, new clips, new guide and slide bushings) and new lower fork legs. Also ended up with an extra set of parts listed above for another rebuild years down the road.

Dropped off the fairing stay, triple trees, master cylinder, and clutch perch to the powder coater today, and got some bad news. He said the triples since they are badly oxidized may not turn out looking great. Good thing is he's very reasonable, he said if I'm not happy with them when done, if I can find some used ones and bring them to him (or at least the upper as it is very visible) then he would do it very cheap the next time he runs that color. So I'm going to roll the dice...

He will, but he said it may be pitted, and it may "outgas" when it's baked and there's nothing he can do about it. He showed me another piece he did that it happened to (says it's only aluminum as it's ok and doesn't happen with steel). The piece looked granular in the pitted places, like it had sand in it. He said it won't affect the integrity, it won't flake or not adhere, it just won't look pretty. He said sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. He is the most reputable guy in the area, only works by word of mouth, so I have faith in him and trust what he says lol.
