Well I've had heated grips for a couple years now on my 09 xb12r and decided to get a heated jacket liner this year to extend my season even longer problem is is it puts too much of a load on the system and there for the battery loses charge while riding what mods can be done to accommodate the extra load on the system?

Hmm. That's a tough one.

What's the amp draw on the heated equipment you have running?

You might be at your limits. ..
Unless you can find a better charging system.
I'm not sure what spec is on our charging systems are.
Of course making sure your connections are all tight and you don't have any charging system issues would be priority 1.

Past that you could try and reducing other loads on the bike?

LED tail light and turn signals and HID headlights draw less juice once warmed up.

You have the dual headlight mod? That'll double your current there.

I don't know if the 09s had the problem with the connector 77, but you could double check that.

something amiss there my friend and it's not in the heated gear. your 09 has a 30 amp charging system meaning it can consistently produce 360 watts. your bike on its own draws approx. 10 amps when running leaving about 20 amps in reserve. a heated vest or jacket liner typically draws 5 amps and grips draw 6 which would leave 9-10 amps or 120 watts in reserve. for what it's worth my 07 Uly and 2010 lightning both have heated grips and have ridden both with aerostitch heated vest with no batt or charging system issues. both bikes stock. have you considered installing an inexpensive volt gauge to view charging parameters? just a suggestion.

I wear Gerbing (Element) jacket, pants, and gloves on my 2005 XBcityX without any issues. I do run a volt meter and everything looks good! My girlfriend runs the same set-up on her 2009 CityX and her 2007 Firebolt without any issues.
