Hi everyone!

lets start off my saying my names Anthony and im looking for some thoughtful advice.

Ive been looking into getting a motorcycle for some time now, Ive thought i knew what i wanted a Yamaha or a CBR. recently one of my friends dads(retired racer)and a proud lover of buells started telling me about them. that's when it started i just kinda fell in love with the buells and now im torn between a jap bike or a buell.
Ive heard a lot of great things from my friends dad about them and also a lot of bad things from others

so my question is what can i expect between buying a xb9r or a yamaha/CBR

Depends what you want to do with it. I got my xb9r because I didnt want what everyone else has, and I didnt want the noise that came with a 4cyl jap bike. If you want to go 160mph then get a jap bike, if you like the twisties, torque, sound of a v-twin and a bike that is just plain cool get a Buell[cool]

I had an r6, Loved it for 5 days, hated it till the day i sold it. Nothing special about it. Just another bike off the line -with everybody elses. Sound, soft "buzz" cruising RPM 8-10k, Also annoying. Fun zone in the power 12-17000 RPM. Not fun to keep it wound like that.

My Buell, Fell in love during the test drive. It was so responsive, agile, the power never hesitates to accelerate. The feel of all that torque, And the sound it produces while accelerating. Its different... and lets you know Its a large displacement V-twin in the thump of the idle or the violent shake at idle. Its Super easy to work on and customoze to make it your own. PPL hear it and see it and respect it instantly. The posture on the firebolt is WAY more comfortable than a yamaha or a CBR and like i said, it handles alot easier, and gives you more feedback allowing you to feel and know your in complete control. I could be Biased but I would vote Buell. You will not regret it. Especially when a CBR is next to you buzzing, and you turn yours on and turn everyones heads.

for me it wasnt even a question. i saw my buddies xb9r and when he started it up i couldnt help but grin ear to ear. i love riding with my buddies and their r6s and r1s because even though their bikes are faster and cost more money, everyone stops and stares at mine. there is just something about them. most jap guys hate them because they are so unique. PS i have no problem hanging with my buddies R1 on the back roads with my xb12r.

I always enjoy riding my 2012 Ninja 650 and I hope to have it for a very long time. The Firebolt though, makes me crazy happy as soon as I hop on it. It's just so unique and so much fun. I had never even seen a Buell when I went to look at mine. A short test drive later and I was hooked. I missed out on a Firebolt about two months before and ended up buying the Ninja because I was disappointed. I couldn't get the 'bolt out of my mind though and ended up getting one anyway. My experience on people saying "bad things" about Buells - or just about anything else for that matter - is that they often don't really know what they're talking about... Somehow it makes them feel superior. Get what you like, ride what makes you happy (and how could a Buell not make you happy???)

wow thanks for all your input!! Zeroflat. that what happened to me my friend started up his xb12r and i just sit there and smile at it :)
I really like the buells
thank you guys it really opend my eyes on to what i want. as soon as i can i will be riding my buddy's buell and posting the pics of my buell!

I was in the same boat, Rodo. I previously had a Ninja 250 and was absolutely in love with the japanese sportbikes and just the looks and structure of them. Until a month ago I was in no way looking to get a new bike and wasn't considering it til next summer! That is before I found out my friend was selling his Buell and figured I could make a deal with him. For the week or so that I waited while we were working things out, I was on youtube and google nonstop looking at the Buell model he had and couldn't take my eyes off it! As soon as I hopped on it to ride away the day I bought it, the sound of that V-twin just put the biggest smile on my face and sent chills down my spine. However I still like the jap sportbikes and will probably end up with a ZX-10R or something of the sort at some point. Buell will always be my first choice from now on though!

haha thats awesome! i used to think buells were ugly and loved the looks of the R6 and R1. but as i learned more about buells like the gas tank in the frame and the oil in the swing arm, as well as the belt drive it just hooked me instantly

Yea I just changed my oil the other day for the first time since I got it and was a breeze. I love the naked look and seeing the engine in the open like it is. Plus it makes cleaning and oil changes easy.

My first test ride was what sold the bike to me. Raw power, non-stop fun, tons of torque! Too much fun haha.

There are too many inline 4s out there. I still love them, but like others stated they need to be wound up to really have fun. I chose Buell because I like to be different and there are so many small somewhat inexpensive mods you can do. Spend a couple of days on here and you'll see that no two Buells are really the same!

I fell in love with my model Buell literally from just browsing the internet. I saw a pic of it and, much like you rodonline I was surprised at the differences between the XB and a Jap bike.

When I test rode the one I have now I was really shocked how it sounded. I expected a smooth purr, not a thunderstorm you could feel through the ground. For pure aesthetics and uniqueness you cannot fault Buells.

The only issue is the lack of support in 3 years.
